Last Saturday, October 14, 2023, the first 'Canary Islands Spinning Championship' was held in the waters of Charco del Palo, in Haría. There, the best rods of Lanzarote were presented, with participants loaded with lures, leaders, staples, and a lot of desire and enthusiasm.
The prize, the classification for the 'Spanish Spinning Championship', a delicious prize, encouraged the fishermen to bring out their best skills. At six in the morning, it started walking and each participant looked for their place, hoping to catch large pieces, but the heat and an excessively calm sea meant that the activity was not as high as the fishermen wanted...
It was time to pull out the best tricks from up your sleeve, and take advantage of the few opportunities that presented themselves. Spending a lot of heat, and between casts and changes of lures, 10:30 a.m. arrived, at which time the fishing time ended and the videos with the catches were presented at the control post.
Several fishermen released vicudas and needles, but only two of them managed to release two of them: Ibón Inchaurbe López, Juan X. Armas and Juan Carlos Ces, who took first, second and third place, with 3,100 and 2,000 total points. Only one fisherman took a piece to weigh, Juan X. Armas who carried a saw.
The swords were at their peak, Juan's saw gave 2,070 grams on the scale, which exceeded the two Vicudas of Juan Carlos Ces, but were far from the 12 pieces captured by Ibón, who in addition to a vicuda and a needle, took ten pieces and led him to add 3,100 points. With 1,300 points and three pieces Michel Ruiz, he got fourth place, while Ding Danh and Francisco J. González with one piece and 1,000 points each, tied in fifth position. Meanwhile, the other participants did not score.
After the weighing, the team awards ceremony was held and Octavio Caraballo prepared an excellent paella that delighted everyone and that 'Lanzafishing' sponsored along with some soft drinks and the odd beer that they enjoyed in good company. Kevin, Anselmo and David, did their work as judges, Judith, as godmother and innocent hand in the draw and Diego, as photographer.
This weekend, November 11, the Official Canary Islands Federation awards ceremony was held, with medals being awarded to the winning participants.
