The I Skoda Fabia Cup was a sample of the good work of the Lanzarote team formed by Alberto Valiente and Salvador Rosa, who won with total authority after marking the best records in all sections of the competition. The Cup took place in Lanzarote this weekend, May 26 and 27, in line with the celebration of the II edition of the Villa de Teguise Rally.
Behind the winner, in the second position, there was an impressive fight between two teams. Roberto Hernández from Conejero and Jordi Díaz from Majorero, and Alfredo Guerra and Miguel Rodríguez from Lanzarote, were fighting for this position until the last section. This dispute was finally decided in favor of Roberto Hernández, by only 1.6 seconds; who thus recovered from a good scare in the first section on Saturday and even a penalty of 10 seconds.
Already in fourth place were classified the Lanzarote natives Agoney Díaz and Rayco Santana, followed by Daniel and Alexis Santana from Gran Canaria. These had to settle for fifth position after several problems such as a spin, faults in the lights, and in addition to a handicap of 54.8 seconds.
The Lanzarote girls maintained a very high pace
The Lanzarote drivers Néstor Luzardo and Kevin Peñate were the sixth classified, giving way in the general to Carlos Villalva and Cayo García, also from Lanzarote.
The last two places in this first classification of the SKODA Fabia Cup were for Daniel Ascanio and Antonio Fajardo from Majorera in ninth place, and tenth for José Tabares and David Espinosa from Lanzarote.
With an outstanding grade, the Lanzarote girls Isa Pérez and Julia Betancor can be classified, who maintained a very high pace throughout the competition, earning the unanimous respect of the rest of their colleagues and fans.
There was a withdrawal after a car overturned
There were only two important incidents in the course of the test for the SKODA Fabia Cup teams. The first of these was the penalty of 10 minutes to the team of Ángel and Ariel Quintana, who also could not enter the closed park on Friday, and had to rejoin the Rally on Saturday to continue learning.
On the other hand, Manuel Medina and Maria Sánchez had to retire when their SKODA Fabia overturned in the fourth timed section of the Rally; an incident in which neither of them suffered damage. The car practically did not suffer damage either, but the breakage of the windshield prevented it from continuing.
The next event of the I SKODA Fabia Cup will be in Fuerteventura, Rally Puerto del Rosario, in what will be the first event on land for the components of this Single-Brand Cup. The Majorera test is scheduled for June 16 and 17.
