It officially premiered in 2000 and since then the Club Triatlón Playa Grande has not stopped contributing athletes to one of the most important events in the world. The main asset of Playa Grande will be Gregorio Cáceres, a triathlete who this year is aiming to get on the podium of the Ironman Lanzarote.
In his ten participations in the Ironman Lanzarote, the Club Triatlón Playa Grande has contributed 132 athletes to the event. A fact that ratifies the dedication of this sports entity in promoting and stimulating participation in the most important sporting event held at island and regional level.
The eleven triathletes who will represent the Club Triatlón Playa Grande are: Gregorio Cáceres, Rebeca Backman, Armando Rivero, Alexis Romero, Javier Burgos, Toño Curbelo, Jacobo Betancort, Sergio Bermúdez, Demetrio González, Carmelo Ruiz and Pablo Ulises.
The participation of the Club Triatlón Playa Grande has remained stable over the last few years. Its greatest participation occurred in 2002, with 21 athletes. In almost all editions, except in 2007, it has achieved success in the different age groups and in the competitions that take place at national and international level.
The Club Triatlón Playa Grande has obtained different successes. In 2001 Elisa Felipe was champion of Spain in the absolute women's category. And Alexis Romero in 2003 won the national title in the sub'23 category. An Alexis Romero who, after many years without participating in the Ironman Lanzarote, will once again take the start for the second time in history.
In addition, the Club de Triatlón Playa Grande has been Spanish Long Distance champion on two occasions and has been Canary Islands champion several times. It has achieved 12 qualifications for Hawaii. And one of its main assets, Gregorio Cáceres, has come close to the podium of the Ironman Lanzarote on several occasions.
Many private and public companies support the Club Triatlón Playa Blanca throughout the season. The participation in the Ironman Lanzarote 2010 is thanks to the support of the Department of Sports of the Tías Town Hall, the Department of Sports of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Bodegas Stratvs, Club La Santa and Tecnosound Canarias.
