The Chinijos La Bamba team was proclaimed this weekend champion of the Canary Islands in the male infant category, after defeating UB Ciutel by 46-43 in a very
even and exciting final that was decided in overtime, after having finished in a tie in regular time.
The Lanzarote team thus manages to repeat the title achieved last season, once again placing itself as the best team in the Canary Islands in the infant male category and confirming the great work it has been carrying out in recent years.
The final was marked by intensity and equality from the start. Neither of the two teams managed to open a clear difference on the scoreboard and the match remained open until the last minutes, with alternatives for both sides. Finally, CD Chinijos knew how to better manage the decisive stretch to end up taking the victory by three goals.
The UB Ciutel also completed an excellent championship, demonstrating a great competitive level throughout the weekend and forcing the host team to offer its best
version to be able to conquer the title, both having the prize of attending the Spanish Championship as first and second classified from the Canary Islands.
The tournament also left a very close final classification, a reflection of the high level currently existing in Canarian youth handball. Third place went to CBM Gáldar, from
Gran Canaria, while the conejero team CB Zonzamas finished in fourth position.
Beyond the results, the event was marked by the good atmosphere in the stands, sportsmanship among all teams and constant excitement in all matches. The
stands of the Villa de Teguise Pavilion were filled to enjoy the handball festival, with the presence of fans from all participating teams, lovers of this
sport and authorities, such as the Mayor of Teguise, the Councilor for Sports of the Cabildo, the Insular Director of Education and the President of the Canarian Handball Federation,
Handball, among others.
CD Chinijos wants to thank the effort of all participating teams, as well as the involvement of volunteers, families, referees, institutions and collaborators, whose support has been fundamental for the development of a championship that once again demonstrated the enormous potential of grassroots handball in the Canary Islands.
