On Friday morning, the XXXI edition of the Puerto Calero Marlin Cup began, one of the most anticipated sport fishing competitions in the Canary Islands. This year, the event has brought together more than fifty boats from various islands of the Canary archipelago, and even a crew that has traveled from the peninsula to participate in this prestigious tournament.

The day began at 09:00 hours with the departure of more than 53 boats from the Marina de Puerto Calero. The participants set sail with the hope of experiencing a fruitful day of fishing in open waters. The fishing area is free, but the boats must respect current regulations, including marine reserves, highlighting the mandatory exclusion of the Chinijo archipelago reserve.

Despite not having the most suitable conditions for fishing due to the wind, the day has been quite fruitful in terms of blue marlin tagging.

The first highlight of the day came at 10:43 a.m. when the boat Showtime, captained by Pedro Bonny from Gran Canaria, managed to tag the first blue marlin of the day, with an estimated weight of 200 kg. Just 13 minutes later, the Exodus, under the command of Luis Romero, took the provisional first position by tagging a blue marlin of 250 kg.

These two boats were the only ones to achieve catches during the first day. But the excitement continued with reports from White Shark, Chimarro and Hasibi Tres. Showtime was able to determine the course of the day when at 14:26 they reported being stuck to the second blue of the day, but they would end up losing the fish and could not certify the capture. For its part, Naomi has also reported two blues, but lost the first one and three minutes before the close of the competition, was fighting with the second piece, reporting its release and thus also entering the competition.

It is expected that the second day, which will begin tomorrow at 09:00 hours, will be quieter in terms of wind and better sea conditions. The organization of the Puerto Calero Marlin Cup invites the public to witness the spectacular departure of the boats from the port dock, an event worthy of admiration, and the closing of the event with the concert of the group Inerxia, which will be open to the public.
