Lanzarote and Madrid teams, after both winning their first two playoff matches, were playing on Sunday morning for promotion to the second national category of women's handball. A great physical display from San José Obrero served to subdue an Ikasa BM Madrid that was never comfortable on the court, being surpassed by the seriousness in the game of the team trained by David Betancort.
The first minutes left some doubts in the game of CB San José Obrero. The locals had entered the court somewhat cold, missing the first three attacks and seeing Ikasa BM Madrid take the initiative. Little by little, San José Obrero got into the game, and two goals from Emma Sánchez from the left wing put San José Obrero ahead for the first time on the scoreboard (4-3).
The game through the wings was fundamental in this match, with Milena Cruz and Emma Sánchez being very successful in this task, players who added half of their team's goals. Precisely Milena Cruz was the one who established 8-5 on the scoreboard after the halfway point of the first half, causing the Madrid coach to request a time-out.
With five minutes left for the end of the first half, Ikasa BM Madrid took advantage of Vanessa de Ganzo's exclusion to score through Ana María Velasco and Andrea Ramírez, reducing the difference to two goals (10-8). It was time to request a time-out and give the team a break on the court. The first half ended with a goal from Milena Cruz on the buzzer that established the 12 to 10 with which the first 30 minutes of play came to an end.
CB San José Obrero was making a great physical display on the court, coupled with the effort they had made on Saturday against Handbol Cooperativa Sant Boi. The Madrid team looked fresher, having more depth on their bench. It was there that the Titerroy public appeared to carry their players on their shoulders and prevent them from collapsing in the key moments of the match.
In the second half, San José Obrero continued to do a lot of damage in the plays that ended through the wings. Two goals from Milena Cruz put the score at 16-12 in the 8th minute of the period. The Lanzarote team enjoyed a rent of 3/4 goals throughout this second half, showing themselves to be very secure in defense.
Goalkeeper Ailín López grew with the passing of the minutes, giving a real recital of interventions in the second half of the match. The Argentine earned the applause of the public and the congratulations of her teammates. All that was missing was the end of the match for the party to break out in the Titerroy Municipal Pavilion. San José Obrero controlled the match and did not allow Ikasa BM Madrid to get closer on the scoreboard.
With the result of 24 to 19, the decisive match came to an end, with CB San José Obrero achieving promotion to the Women's Silver Honor Division of Handball. A reward for a season of hard work, where the objective was not promotion, but to grow with a group of very young players and give continuity to a squad formed mostly by players from the youth category.
