The women's category has had a great dominator. The British Rachel Joyce has imposed her law on the roads of Lanzarote and after just over nine hours, she has managed to cross the finish line in first place. Such has been her dominance that she has even managed to leave the swimming segment in the first positions, ahead of many of the professional male triathletes. The Lanzarote native Aroa Merino has successfully completed a new Ironman that she includes in her extensive career.
Rachel Joyce completed the 3.8 kilometers of running in a time of 49 minutes and 5 seconds, obtaining an advantage of almost four minutes over the rest of her rivals. The German Heidi Jesberger came out of the water in second place, although she was losing positions in the bicycle segment.
The Swiss Natasha Badmann, a triathlete who came out of the water in seventh position, was gaining positions in the 180 kilometers of bicycle, placing herself in second place. After losing more than 8 minutes in the swimming segment, she managed to reduce the advantage with Rachel Joyce by three minutes at the end of the bicycle segment.
Rachel Joyce, in the marathon segment, once again imposed her law and gave Natascha Badmann no options to get closer. Finally, Rachel Joyce crossed the finish line in first place, after investing a time of 09:28:12. Second place went to Natascha Badmann (09:43:40) and third place went to the Danish Karina Ottosen (10:10:15).
