Puerto Rican Jailene Maldonado joins the CB Zonzamas project

The Club Balonmano Lanzarote Zonzamas continues to prepare for what will be its fifth consecutive season in the Women's Silver Division of Handball. The batatero team has closed the signing of the Puerto Rican Jailene Maldonado, a player who will reinforce the side and right end of the team.

Jaileme Maldonado, born on February 15, 1995 in Puerto Rico, is a left-handed player of 1.80 meters in height, who usually plays in the positions of side or right end. She is a regular player in the calls of the Puerto Rico National Team, both in the lower and absolute categories, and playing a World Cup with her country.

The new player of CB Lanzarote Zonzamas considers herself a natural athlete, always related to handball. "I appreciate the opportunity for growth that CB Zonzamas offers me", comments Jailene Maldonado and adds that "I value the opportunity they have given me to contribute everything I have for the club. I hope to be able to contribute and help the club achieve new goals".

In the 2016/2017 season she played in the ranks of BM Granollers, in the highest category of Spanish women's handball. Jailene says that "I live every moment of the game as if it were the last, because in this sport a moment can be decisive and change the course of the game". And after playing a World Cup with Puerto Rico, she says that it helped her "to expose myself to the whole world, and to improve both technically and tactically, because the level in a World Cup is demanding".

Jailene Maldonado did not hesitate when accepting the offer presented to her by CB Lanzarote Zonzamas for the 2019/2020 season. "They have proven to be very responsible and dedicated to the sport" and about the team she says that "it does not give up, it is a very defensive team and seeks that the score is not very high". And on this aspect she adds that "it is one of the facets that we work on in the Puerto Rico national team, so if they have a game similar to the team of my country, it will be much easier to fight together and adapt".

She becomes the second reinforcement of CB Lanzarote Zonzamas for the 2019/2020 season, and joins the signing of goalkeeper Cristina Mazaira. Jailene Maldonado will join the training of her new team next Tuesday, August 27, under the orders of Juanmi Pérez.
