Direct duel for promotion that was experienced on Saturday afternoon at the Florida Arena Municipal Sports Center, with the match between Lobas Global Atac Oviedo and CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife. The Lanzarote team dominated the match for a good part of it, but incomprehensibly they were not able to close the victory in a match in which they had a five-goal advantage and were not able to penetrate the goal defended by Inés Suárez in the last thirteen minutes of the match.
The match started in the best way for the interests of CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife, with a 0-3 partial in the first three minutes. Miriam Páez opened the scoring with a seven-meter shot, Adina Guidoarca increased the differences and Leticia Cobo, from the pivot, made it 0-3. Oviedo coach Manolo Díaz took less than three minutes to request the first timeout.
The defense of the Lanzarote team was quite solid in this first part, causing errors in Lobas Global Atac Oviedo. Jazmin Mendoza and Miriam Páez increased the difference to five goals (2-7). The local team changed its defensive system, moving to play with a 5:1 defense and preventing the visiting team from being comfortable in attack actions.
In the first part, the interventions of Irene Sánchez stood out, a goalkeeper who was quite safe under the posts and even stopped two seven-meter shots. And in attack, the work of Leticia Cobo on the six-meter line was fundamental, forcing several penalties. With the score of 10 to 13, the first 30 minutes of the game came to an end.
The second half started in the same way as the first, and nothing foreshadowed the outcome that the match was going to have. The period began with goals from Adina Guidoarca and Miriam Páez, regaining the five-goal lead they had enjoyed for many minutes. From that moment on, the match entered a phase of inaccuracies.
CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife got stuck in attack in the last thirteen minutes of the match, failing to overcome the defensive framework of the locals, losing balls very easily and not looking for the best alternatives in attack. Lobas Global Atac Oviedo got into the match as the minutes passed.
With six minutes left for the end of the match, Teresa Rodríguez scored from the pivot to tie the score (18-18), and two minutes later it was Aida Palicio who beat Irene Sánchez with an outside shot to put her team ahead for the first time. CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife continued without ideas in attack and Aida Palicio sealed the match with a goal on the verge of passive.
Defeat by 20 to 18 of CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife against Lobas Global Atac Oviedo, a result that leaves the Lanzarote team in third place in the standings of the Women's Honor Division Gold. The competition stops until the weekend of March 11, receiving the visit of Elda Pretigio, another direct rival in the fight for promotion.
