Handball in Lanzarote is in good health. The Canary Islands Championships recently won by San José Obrero and CB Zonzamas, or the promotion phases that Puerto del Carmen and CD Tahíche will face, are synonymous with the good moment that Lanzarote handball is going through. And it is also demonstrated in the multitude of players who this weekend have participated in the thirty-ninth edition of the 24-Hour Handball Tournament. The event organized by San José Obrero has once again been a success in terms of participation and more than a thousand players have been playing for more than 24 hours uninterruptedly.

The XXXIX 24-Hour Handball Tournament started on Saturday morning, with the youngest players being the first to take to the court. Until 1:30 p.m., the players in the pre-Benjamin, Benjamin and Alevín categories played their matches. The more than 300 participating boys and girls received a diploma at the end of the day. In these categories, the results were not taken into account and the important thing is that the youngest players had fun playing handball.

At noon on Saturday, the cadet teams came into play, to give way to the youth category and have the participation of the senior category teams reserved for Saturday night and early morning. The thirty-ninth edition of the 24-Hour Handball Tournament has had the participation of a total of 78 teams. As in previous editions, the tournament once again had the participation of several teams from Fuerteventura. From Majorera lands came Caima Villaverde or Ciudad de Puerto, participation that enhances this new edition of the handball tournament.

Sunday morning began with the celebration of the finals of the children's, cadet and youth categories. The triumph in the men's children's category was for "Los Flojos" after defeating "Los Débiles" in the final, teams that were made up of players from San José Obrero. In women's, the victory was for "Piñita San José" and second CD Tahíche. Caima Villaverde from Fuerteventura had a good performance in the cadet category, winning the women's final against CD Tahíche and being runner-up in the men's after losing to "Escorpiones". And in the youth category, "Hakuna Matata" and "All Star Tapados" were the winners in the women's and men's categories, respectively. The runners-up were "Las Chicas Nike" and "Retired Stars".

The culmination of the XXXIX 24-Hour Handball Tournament was the final of the senior category. The women's final was starred by "The Tomi´s Team" and "Pa las Risas", with the victory for the members of the team "The Tomi´s Team" who won by 23 to 20. And in the men's final, the triumph was for "Pastelería La Tarta" by winning 25 to 18 to "Espartanos Team". Numerous public gathered in the stands of the Lanzarote Sports City Pavilion to enjoy these two great finals of the tournament.

At the conclusion of the finals, the awards ceremony of the XXXIX 24-Hour Handball Tournament took place, at which time a series of distinctions were also awarded and the best players were chosen. In the category of goalkeepers, Raquel Arrocha and Sergio Bonilla were distinguished as the best goalkeepers of the tournament. Melania Cabrera and Javier Betancort were chosen as the best players of the event. And Sergio Morera Aparicio received a special mention for his work in the world of handball.
