The 4th edition of the Bestial Race 10k Xtreme Yaiza 2023 will have the participation of more than 800 athletes from 18 different countries, who will face new obstacles and a spectacular setup. This sporting event, which will be held next Saturday, September 2, was presented this Tuesday morning at the Mynd Hotel in Playa Blanca, in Yaiza.

In addition, it is part of the third event of the Bestial Race Series by Naviera Armas 2023 calendar, which this year has the collaboration of the Pura Vida Lanzarote Diving Association.

The presentation was attended by the Sports Councilor of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Juan Monzón; the mayor and the Sports Councilor of the Yaiza City Council, Óscar Noda and Ángel Lago, respectively; the manager of the Lanzarote Tourism Promotion Society, Héctor Fernández; the commercial delegate in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote of Naviera Armas, Gema Ibáñez; the instructor of Pura Vida Diving, Gema Lago; and the manager of BeSport and organizer of the event, Alfredo López.

Juan Monzón congratulated the organization and the Yaiza City Council for continuing to support an event such as the Bestial Race K10 XTreme, which he described as "unique on the island of Lanzarote". He also pointed out that "as a unique event in Lanzarote, my responsibility as a councilor is to continue supporting it and this type of competition."

"A race in which the number of participants is increasing more and more, highlighting in this edition the 800 athletes, of which 400 come from other islands of the Archipelago. It is a competition that becomes economic promotion, tourist and sports promotion," said the councilor, who highlighted that in this edition "we have the Spanish champion of this demanding sports discipline, Jessica Velasco."

The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, highlighted that "one more year and it's been four already, the Bestial Race K10XTreme of Yaiza arrives in our municipality. An obstacle course that is increasingly liked for its route, in which the obstacles are becoming more and more difficult. The tourism-sports binomial is very important for the municipality and for the Island, as it moves the entire local economy weeks before and weeks after the race. A sporting event that is consolidated, which has been worked very well from the Sports area of the City Council, with the collaboration of the Cabildo and private companies. We hope that those 800 participants have a great day of sports, leisure and health next Saturday and enjoy the municipality and the Island."

Ángel Lago explained that "sports in the municipality of Yaiza are in luck, because with its help we are moving towards quality tourism. We are very happy to be able to continue supporting this competition, which makes a difference in the municipality. A competition that places us in the world and European panorama of obstacle course races, which makes Lanzarote grow worldwide. An incomparable destination for the natural beauty of the Fire Mountains or the Papagayo beaches, which offers an attractive calendar of sporting events."

"Effort, hardness and spectacularity are ingredients that are mixed in the Bestial Race Xtreme Yaiza and we are prepared for them to enjoy sports in a splendid environment," added the Sports Councilor.

"The Bestial Race is a discipline in clear rise internationally and that Lanzarote consolidates this event in the municipality of Yaiza is very good news for the island as a sports tourism destination. Little by little the Island is becoming a very successful sports tourism platform," commented the manager of the Lanzarote Tourism Promotion Society, Héctor Fernández, who explained that "20% of the tourists that Lanzarote receives per year come for some motivation linked to sports tourism. The sports tourist has higher spending and stay levels than the average and that confirms the strategy we are betting on."

Finally, Alfredo López expressed his gratitude to the institutions, public and private entities, companies and collaborators for "giving us the opportunity to return to Lanzarote, showing a destination where quality, safe and high-level sporting events can be held all year round." However, "the greatest gratitude we have to give to the participants, since thanks to their participation the Bestial Race is a reality," said the manager of BeSport, who highlighted that "we return to Lanzarote in our third event, which will have a participation of 800 athletes and marking the way to great obstacle courses on the island."

The most bestial race in Lanzarote, which is held this time in the morning, will have a very technical route of ups and downs along trails marked by the organization through the Yaiza landscapes of 10 and five kilometers, starting at the Plaza de la Alameda, with the first departure at 10:30 a.m. and so on staggered, and ending in the same place. The runners will start and finish the race in the Plaza de la Alameda after overcoming the 30 obstacles of the three zones through which the route passes.

The modalities in which they can participate are the Elite - Age Group, where they can participate against the best obstacle athletes from Lanzarote, the rest of the Islands, Spain and Europe, who must comply with the OSO regulations, which means that they cannot fail in any obstacle and will not have help, since if it were not so they will be disqualified. The General modality, where they can have help and have two opportunities to overcome the obstacle, if not they will be penalized with 15 burpees, being the volunteers in charge of counting the penalty and to whom they are obliged to pay attention, since if they ignore their instructions they will be disqualified from the competition.

Those in the Elite - Age Group category who are disqualified can continue participating and finish the race, but they will not have race time. Therefore, the organization encourages to repeat the obstacle without limits of opportunities until it is overcome and they can do so using the retry line in those obstacles that have lanes for repetitions or the one indicated by the judges. In addition, participants in this modality must carry their bib or identification bracelets in a mandatory and visible manner during the course of the race, as they may be requested by the judges for checks.

This competition has been classifying in the most important championships worldwide for years, being the only obstacle course in the Canary Islands with those merits. This trajectory has placed it on several occasions among the ten best races in Spain, being an international reference for the development of this sport.
