The sports management of UD Lanzarote continues working on the preparation of the first team's squad for the next season, a campaign in which the rojillo team will compete again in the Canary Islands group of the Third Division RFEF. The coach from Salamanca, Mateo García, will be in charge of leading the new sports project of UD Lanzarote, being the technical manager of the team during the next season.

Mateo García Barco, born in Salamanca on March 15, 1976, has developed a large part of his sports career in Madrid and dedicated his beginnings to grassroots football. He coached in prestigious youth academies such as Real Madrid, Atlético de Madrid, Rayo Vallecano, Getafe CF and CD Leganés.

In the 2014/2015 season he made the leap to professional football with Getafe CF, directing the Getafe subsidiary in the Second Division “B”. In the 2015/2016 season he took charge of UD San Sebastián de los Reyes, a Madrid team with which he won the League champion title and promotion to the bronze division in the champion's elimination round played against UD Villa de Santa Brígida.

The promotion opened the doors of a consolidated club in the Second Division “B”, directing Club Deportivo Guijuelo in the 2016/2017 season. In the 2017/2018 campaign he took the reins of Fútbol Alcobendas Sport of the Third Division. And later he worked as Director of Methodology and Coordinator at FC Lugano (Switzerland) and Atlético Español de Shenzhen (China).

In the 2019/2020 season he took the reins of Real Sociedad Gimnástica Torrelavega, a team he joined in January and with his good work on the bench he earned the renewal for the recently concluded campaign. For personal reasons he had to leave the Cantabrian team last January.

Mateo García has traveled to the island of Lanzarote to see the sports facilities first-hand and begin planning for the next campaign. A few days that have served to sign his contract and that will link him to UD Lanzarote during the 2021/2022 season.
