Great beach handball show experienced this weekend on the sand of El Reducto beach, celebrating a new edition of the 'Arrecife City Beach Handball Tournament 2023'. The tournament, organized by CB San José Obrero, broke registration records with 54 participating teams, and took place within the program of sports activities of the San Ginés festivities that take place in the capital of the island.
At 08.30 on Saturday the activity began, with the celebration of the first matches of the different categories. A first day in which a total of 67 matches were scheduled, extending the beach handball until around 21.00 hours. Throughout the day there was a great atmosphere of beach handball, with thousands of people who at some point came to experience the matches.
Sunday was reserved for the celebration of the semi-final rounds of the different categories and the finals. On this occasion, the Arrecife City Beach Handball Tournament 2023 featured the categories alevín, infantil, cadete, juvenil and sénior, both in the male and female categories. The final of the senior female category faced 'Ikasi Ganamos' against 'Piña Colada', a match that had to be decided in the exciting 'shoot-out' and highlighting the three saves of the goalkeeper of 'Piña Colada' for her team to
score the victory. And in the men's category, 'Machangos Team' won in two sets against 'Chamberga Team'.
The organization of the Arrecife City Beach Handball Tournament 2023 presented for the first time individual awards to the best players and goalkeepers of the tournament. As for the goalkeepers, the awards went to Ana Marín and Gabriel López. And the awards for the best players were given to Ingrid Barrachina and Daniel Martín.
The Arrecife City Beach Handball Tournament 2023 has been organized by CB San José Obrero and was sponsored by the Department of Sports of the Arrecife City Council. In addition, it had the collaboration of the Canary Islands Handball Federation, Government of the Canary Islands, Cabildo de Lanzarote, Canary Islands Latitude of Life, Lanzarote Biosphere Reserve, Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of Lanzarote (CACT) and Island Sports Service.
