Lavatrail Lanzarote 2012 took another step today in its preparation for the departure on March 31, with the official presentation of the event to the island's media, entities and sponsors. The press conference took place at the Paleocenter Lanzarote Sports Clinic, the main organizer of the event.
The event was presented by Orlando Montesdeoca, director of Paleocenter and Technical Director of Lavatrail; accompanied by the President of the Island Council of Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés; the Councilor for Tourism of Lanzarote, Carmen Steiner; and the sports councilors of the municipalities of Yaiza, Teguise and Tinajo; Rafael Tavío, Olivia Duque and Antonio Morales, respectively.
The presentation explained the changes that the event has undergone compared to the previous edition, with the creation of one more category, the so-called "Starter". The number of refreshment points has been increased to one every 10 or 12 kilometers, the time of the first start has been changed to 2 a.m. at Playa de La Garita in Arrieta and the finish line has been moved to the end of the Marina Rubicón dike. In addition, there will be multiple services for participants (cold water pools, massages, meals, etc.?).
Orlando Montesdeoca confirmed that the objective is to stabilize this event at an international level, placing it within the Mont Blanc calendar, the most important event for participants. Lavatrail Lanzarpte 2012 will be worth two points for the 2013 Mont Blanc and future work will be carried out so that in future editions more people will come from outside the island. This year there will be multiple participants from all over the Canary Islands, from various parts of Spain and even runners who will come from Andorra or Italy.
The current list of registered runners is more than 360, with the organization hoping to reach 400, doubling the number of registered runners from the previous year. Registrations can be made until March 24 through the organizer's website www.paleocenter.es.
The organization has developed three official training sessions and invites runners to participate in the two remaining ones this weekend, helping participants to recognize the terrain. In addition, there will be more events planned the day before the race with the Runner's Fair where different stands of the event's sponsors and collaborators will be available. A specific briefing at HD Beach Resort where the program of activities and the regulations of each race will be announced and a specific caloric dinner adapted for each distance.
The president of the Island Council of Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés, expressed his "satisfaction to see that we were not wrong a few years ago when we opted for the tourist seal proposed by nautical stations and that it is no coincidence that the forecasts are being exceeded in all the events that are being held on the island, nor is it a coincidence that private initiative is joining in the realization of these events that, almost without help and only with the registrations, are going ahead together with more than 30 events of enormous appeal, being a fundamental axis for the sports promotion of the island", pointing out that "our climate allows us to do this type of events and our orography helps Lanzarote to be a reference".
The president of the Cabildo has confirmed his participation in the 13-kilometer race, hoping that the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Paulino Rivero, will join and attend as he did last year.
