Expectation took hold yesterday afternoon among fans and curious onlookers at the Puerto Calero facilities, when at seven in the afternoon the boat "Fénix I" captained by Juan Miguel Winter crossed the port's mouth, bringing aboard a blue marlin specimen that reached 259.85 kilos on the scales.

This fulfilled the expectations of the second day of the XIII Puerto Calero Deep Sea Fishing Tournament, which has been held since last Thursday. The first announcements were not long in coming, and before twelve noon, Frank O'Toole's boat "Brinoco" had two dorados, and a few minutes later the "Delta" captained by José Luis Betancort, announced that they were bringing aboard a magnificent specimen of white marlin weighing 26.50 kilos.

The "Fénix I" announced the capture of a blue marlin of 259.85 kilos, which allows it to lead the classification of the species and the general classification by points. A couple of hours earlier, the boat "El Maño" commanded by Marcelino Cabrera, captured a wahoo of 24.55 kilograms and the "Blue Finn" of Mamerto Cabrera, brought ashore another specimen of 54.10 kilos that place him as leader in the white marlin species.

So far, of the 59 registered boats, eleven have managed to get a bite, capturing or releasing according to the preferences of the fishermen, although not all have managed to score.

Now we just have to wait for the last day that starts at nine this morning that will decide the final classification.

At nine tonight, the awards ceremony is scheduled to be presided over by Alexia of Greece and Carlos Morales, who are regulars at the events of the marina managed by José Calero. After the closing dinner, attendees can enjoy a magnificent dance.

The winner of the XIII edition of the Puerto Calero Tournament will enjoy three days of fishing in Miami or the Bahamas aboard a boat from the prestigious American shipyard Bertram. In addition, beautiful trophies designed by local artist Francisco Curbelo will be awarded.
