The sports management of the San José Obrero Handball Club continues to work on the projects designed for the next season of its two national teams. The men's team will compete again in the First National League, a category in which they will fight to be in the upper area of the standings. Iñaki Malumbres will be the technical manager of Gourmet Ampate Lanzarote for the 2021/2022 season.
Iñaki Malumbres Aldave, born in Navarra on August 3, 1975, developed a large part of his sports career as a player in the ASOBAL League, defending the goal of teams such as Beti Onak, Balonmano Gáldar, Balonmano Valladolid, Portland San Antonio, JD Arrate, Balonmano Aragón and Ademar León, playing his last year as a professional in the ranks of RK Vardar of North Macedonia.
As a coach, he debuted in the Men's First National League in the ranks of the University of Valladolid, later joining the reserve team of Atlético Valladolid, a team in the ASOBAL League. He also coached the youth team of Castilla y León, winning third place in the Spanish Championship, in addition to being the technical director of the Castilla y León Handball Federation. Since 2016 he has been in the technical staff of the Spanish Handball Federation, participating in the different concentrations of young talents in the junior and youth categories, and working alongside Jordi Ribera, national coach.
After sealing his commitment with the Lanzarote team for the 2021/2022 season, Iñaki Malumbres is “very excited and with a great responsibility because San José Obrero is a great club” and adds that he is “very eager to work and do my bit to achieve the objectives that the club has set for me”.
Regarding the way of playing that he likes to develop in the teams he coaches, the coach assures that “my style of play is a bit similar to that of the Valladolid school of defense and counterattack” and explains that “the idea is to alternate the 6:0 and 5:1 defenses, recover balls and go up quickly on the counterattack”. Malumbres adds that it is “a cheerful style of play with high scores”.
Iñaki Malumbres comments that the objective that the club has set for him “is to fight for the maximum in the new season and it is a quite demanding club in sports” and assures that he will get involved with “the work with the sports schools and the base, not only being the coach of the first team but helping the rest of the members of the club's technical structure”.
Once the incorporation of Iñaki Malumbres to the technical staff of San José Obrero for the 2021/2022 season has been closed, the club's sports management is working on the preparation of the squad with the renewal of the players who are interested in the new sports project and the search for reinforcements for the most weakened positions of the men's team.
