The Haría City Council has decided to postpone the Costa Norte ‘Lionel Morales’ Crossing, which was to be held this Sunday, November 7, due to "the unfavorable atmospheric conditions that the island of Lanzarote will suffer during this weekend."

From the northern Consistory they have announced that the test will be carried out next Sunday, November 14, "if weather conditions permit."

The mayor of Haría, Chaxiraxi Niz, explained that the decision to postpone the competition is made “from the need to guarantee the safety of the athletes, taking into account the waves, the wind and the rainfall that could occur during this weekend on the Island.”

“Swimming is a sport that carries its risks if practiced in complicated atmospheric conditions, so we want to make sure that the first edition of this crossing goes well and, therefore, it will be carried out next Sunday, in case the weather allows it”, added the Councilor for Sports, Alejandro Hernández.

The Haría City Council recalls that the crossing will consist of “three tests of different distances”, so there will be “a 5,500 race, one of 3,200 and another of 1,500 meters”. They also emphasize that the results of the same “will count towards the classification score for the Canary Islands Open Water Cup.”

Haría also recalls the starting points of the tests: “the 5,500 meters will start from the coast of Jameos del Agua, the 3,200 meters will do so from the Punta Mujeres dock, and the 1,500 meters will start from the Arrieta dock”. The finish line for all three races will be La Garita beach, in Arrieta.
