Popular races are booming on the island of Lanzarote and more and more towns are deciding to organize a popular race during the celebration of their patron saint festivities. On Saturday afternoon it was the turn of the town of Tahíche, celebrating the I Tahíche 2013 Solidarity Race. More than 250 runners decided to participate in the event organized by the festival committee and whose main objective was to collect non-perishable food for the neediest people. Francisco José García Viñoly and María Goretti Pérez were the absolute winners of the 10-kilometer race.

On the occasion of the festivities of Santiago Apóstol and Santa Ana, the town of Tahíche hosted a popular 5 and 10 kilometer race on Saturday afternoon. The race took place through the streets of Tahíche, with the start and finish in the area near the school. The registration broke all expectations and more than 250 runners decided to participate in this race. The only requirement to participate was to contribute non-perishable food and that the members of the festival committee would donate to the neediest families. Once again the people of Lanzarote demonstrated their solidarity.

The main race had a distance of 10 kilometers. The big favorite for the final triumph was José Francisco García Viñoly, athlete of the Tenerife CajaCanarias club, and who responded to the favoritism by crossing the finish line in first place. The podium was completed with the second place of Jesús Albar and the third position of Mark Thorm. In the women's category, the victory in the 10-kilometer race went to María Goretti Pérez. She was "escorted" on the podium by Puri Gallego and Sira Julve, who were second and third, respectively.

The I Tahíche 2013 Solidarity Race also had a 5-kilometer race and many of the participants decided to do it walking. In this modality, the male victory went to Jorge Torres, who won at the finish line against Tinguaro Quintero and Abraham Da Silva. In the women's category the victory went to Begoña Cabrera, accompanied on the podium by Carolina Hernández and Dolores María Domínguez.
