The island of Lanzarote has been committed to sports tourism for several years, with renowned elite athletes choosing our island to develop a good part of their training. Lanzarote offers magnificent weather, orography and services for athletes, conditions that will now be complemented by the first sports advisory center, which will help improve the performance of athletes. DeportClinic by Biolab opened its new facilities on Friday afternoon, in a grand opening that marks the culmination of many months of preparations to launch a pioneering project in the Canary Islands.
From early in the afternoon everything was prepared on José Betancort Street in Arrecife, the area where the DeportClinic facilities are located. The guests arrived at the place, being amazed by the chosen decoration and aware that something big was going to happen throughout the afternoon. The triathlete Víctor del Corral and the presenter Carmen Nieves Pérez were the masters of ceremonies.
The inauguration of DeportClinic by Biolab had godparents of high sports recognition, who did not want to miss to give their support to what will be a pioneering sports advisory center in the Canary Islands. Among the guests were José Luis Doreste, director of the Catalan Institute of Traumatology, the psychologist Manuela Rodríguez Marote, tutor of the High Performance Center of Madrid, Vicente Úbeda, national athletics coach and the doctor David López Capapé. And among the athletes, DeportClinic has the sponsorship of Cristian Jordán, European U23 Cross champion, Israel Oliver, member of the Paralympic swimming team, Isaac Botella, captain of the Spanish artistic gymnastics team and the triathletes Tamara Gómez and Vicente Hernández. In addition, the Lanzarote Olympic athlete José Carlos Hernández was also present at the inauguration of DeportClinic.
The local authorities also attended the inauguration of the sports advisory center, being represented the City Council of Arrecife and the Cabildo of Lanzarote. José Montelongo, Deputy Mayor of Arrecife, and Francisca Toledo, Councilor for Sports, were representing the City Council of Arrecife and Pedro San Ginés, president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, was also present.
The Deputy Mayor of Arrecife, José Montelongo, wanted to congratulate those responsible for DeportClinic for "the initiative as it is a pioneering project in the Canary Islands" and added that this new advisory center will help to "boost the economy of the city of Arrecife". For his part, Pedro San Ginés recalled that in recent years there has been a commitment "to sports tourism and DeporClinic will help to offer a higher quality service", congratulating that Lanzarote "has these entrepreneurs", referring to those responsible for the sports advisory center.
Obel Castañeda, head of Biolab and architect together with Toño Cedrés of the launch of DeportClinic by Biolab, was in charge of explaining how the first steps were to launch the center. Obel explained that DeportClinic "arises from understanding athletes, what their needs are, and helping them improve without harming the health of the athlete." In addition, he wanted to thank the support they have received from great professionals who have wanted to get involved in the DeportClinic project, recalling that they will have great professionals in each of the subjects. Obel concluded by saying that it is "a project from Lanzarote for Lanzarote".
Before proceeding to the official inauguration of the DeportClinic by Biolab facilities, the Isla de Lanzarote Gymnastics Club performed a gymnastics exhibition at the doors of the sports advisory center. The president of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, together with Obel Castañeda, Toño Cedrés and Víctor del Corral, was in charge of cutting the ribbon with which the new DeportClinic by Biolab facilities in Arrecife were inaugurated.
The guests were able to see first-hand the interior of the facilities, as well as find out about each of the services that will be offered at DeportClinic. Without a doubt, a very special afternoon for the dozens of people who have put all their effort into launching a pioneering sports advisory center in the Canary Islands.
