David Patiño and Jesús García, Galician and Extremaduran, respectively, and residents of Lanzarote for more than two decades, have this Sunday managed to be finishers of the World Marathon Majors (the 6 most important and prestigious marathons in the world)
The adventure begins in Berlin back in September 2015, a city that has seen several world records shattered. A year later, in November 2016, they run one of the most famous in the world, the mythical New York marathon, an event that is completed by more than 51,000 participants. In October 2017 they run the 40th edition of the Chicago Marathon, a city where the two best marks in the world in the women's marathon have been recorded.
In 2019 they conquer their second European Major, the London Marathon, lthe race with the most fundraising for charitable purposes and where some runners decide to use really striking costumes such as Superman, the Minions, a rhinoceros or even the famous Big Ben.
After the pandemic, in April 2022 they finish their fifth Major and third on American asphalt, the historic Boston Marathon, the oldest annual race in the world and whose first edition dates back to 1897.
And this Sunday they have managed to fulfill their dream of achieving their sixth and longed-for star by finishing the Tokyo Marathon, the most important in Asia, whose oriental philosophy of overcoming and companionship are, without a doubt, a great incentive to run through the main streets of the Japanese capital, with a route that shows the past, present and future of one of the most innovative cities in the world.
They have shared races with the best long-distance runners of recent years such as the world record holders of the distance, Eliud Kipchoge and Brigid Kosgei; Birhanu Legese, Mo Farah, Galen Rupp, Mary Keitany, Gladys Cherono, Tirunesh Dibaba or the Olympic champion Peres Jepchirchir, among others.
