The tourist town of Puerto del Carmen, in the municipality of Tías, hosted the twelfth edition of the Ocean Lava Lanzarote Triathlon this Saturday, with the participation of 500 triathletes from 28 countries. A race that was made quite tough by the high temperatures and that began to be held from eight in the morning with the start at Playa Grande. Damián Martínez and Tessa Kortekaas have been the absolute winners of the Ocean Lava Lanzarote Triathlon.
The intense heat and the absolute absence of wind have marked the development of the twelfth edition of the triathlon event, testing the physical condition of all participants. In the "Half Distance" mode, the triathletes completed a course of 1,900 meters of swimming, 90 kilometers of cycling and 20 kilometers of running.
In the men's category, Damián Martínez and José Manuel Hernández have maintained a beautiful hand-to-hand battle that has been decided in the running segment. José Manuel lost a good part of the advantage he had over his rival, and was overtaken on the third lap of the circuit set up on the Avenida de las Playas in Puerto del Carmen.
Damián Martínez, from Galicia and based on the island of Lanzarote, took the victory in the XII Ocean Lava Lanzarote Triathlon, using a total time of 4 hours, 26 minutes and 37 seconds. The second place went to José Manuel Hernández (4:28:46), and the podium was completed with the third position of Jonay García (4:38:09).
The Dutchwoman Tessa Kortekaas has been the great dominator of the women's event of the Ocean Lava Lanzarote Triathlon, being in charge of setting a strong pace from the beginning and increasing the advantage over the rest of the rivals. Tessa crossed the finish line with a mark of 4 hours, 49 minutes and 27 seconds. The second position was Charlotte Martin (5:18:54) and in the third position was Esther Hernández (5:36:45).

The twelfth edition of the Ocean Lava Lanzarote Triathlon also included the "Olympic" modality, with a course of 1,500 meters of swimming, a cycling segment of 42 kilometers and concluding with a run along the Avenida de las Playas in Puerto del Carmen of 10 kilometers, receiving the warmth of the many people who followed the race.
Andrés Eduardo Díaz took the victory in the men's category, using a total time of 1 hour, 59 minutes and 9 seconds. The second place went to Jorge Wilkes (2:00:37) and the podium of the men's category was completed with the third place of Iván Díaz (2:08:40).
In the women's category, Ana Yanes was the absolute dominator of the "Olympic" modality, taking the victory with a mark of 2 hours, 34 minutes and 24 seconds. She was more than twelve minutes ahead of the second classified, a privileged position that was conquered by Amber Middelhoek (2:42:52). Nerea Martínez (2:53:31) took third place.
The "Olympic" modality also had the possibility of being carried out by teams of three triathletes, with each of the team members completing one of the segments of the course. The victory went to the CD Latitud 29 team made up of Chedey, Rayco and Oliver. The Roots Training Málaga team took second place in the team classification.
