The CB Puerto del Carmen Women's Territorial League team fell defeated this Thursday at the Municipal de Tías against CB San José Obrero (22-23), in a match corresponding to the sixteenth round of the autonomous competition.

Unusual derby on a Thursday night in which San José started more plugged in, the first local timeout arriving with six minutes of play (1-3). After the break the goalkeepers gained some prominence, but Puerto continued without carburating and with the point of aim somewhat misadjusted (5-7, min.15).

Until the 18th minute, Puerto del Carmen could not tie the match for the first time after a goal by Carla De Marco (7-7). Something had changed in the tiñoseras. Lucía Olivier put them ahead, prompting the visiting timeout. Upon returning to the court, Puerto advanced lines in defense, significantly hindering San José's ball movement. Several inaccuracies occurred in both squads when Miriam Páez suffered her second disqualification after a tough defense on Carla de Marco. The superiority lasted little, as moments later, Adriana Reyes suffered the same fate in the gold and black ranks (9-9. Min. 26). The match entered a small chaotic phase, after which Puerto managed to reach halftime with a minimal advantage (11-10).

In the resumption San José started scoring, but the equality of was maintained after a few minutes (13-12. Min. 5). Puerto strung together several minutes of inaccuracy and the visitors took advantage of it to take the lead, plus four (15-19, min. 17:06). Despite the distance on the scoreboard, Lemes called a timeout. San José went up by five after the break. Puerto continued to err in attack, but a missile from Carla De Marco broke the drought. Ana Zaida Rodríguez joined the party with a beautiful lob to put her team at only two goals (18-20, min.22:28). Puerto again advanced lines and caused problems for the visitors. Lemes called a new timeout to try to patch up the situation with a breath to play (20-21, min.27). After the stoppage, Amaia Barrachina launched herself with her soul to tie at twenty-one.  San José took the lead after a protested penalty, but Adriana Reyes tied from the heart of the area. With twenty seconds to play, a controversial buzzer-beater goal arrived that gave the victory to San José.

For San José's coach, Miguel Ángel Lemes, it was “a very intense match where both teams knew what they were playing for, hence the number of inaccuracies there were in the match. We started well in defensive balance trying to stop Puerto del Carmen's fast counterattack and in attack we had a lot of patience trying to overcome the 5:1 defense with a lot of connection with the pivots. We managed to achieve a 5-goal lead in the second half, but our accuracy in front of goal was not good in the final minutes (missing three 6-meter shots and a penalty) which led them to cut the deficit and tie the match. In the end, we drew on experience and held the final 35-second possession, scoring a goal at the buzzer and giving us the option to continue fighting to play the promotion phase. Now Zonzamas awaits us at their home and we have to be more accurate to opt to beat them. I believe the spectator saw a good show due to the excitement of the clash and left happy”.

For his part, Antonio Gabaldón, Tiñosero coach, spoke of “an important match because, winning, it gave us the possibility of continuing to fight for the top spots and drawing, losing, it left us out. A very even first half. We tried to rotate players to minimize fatigue. We started with a 5-1 to try to stop the throwing players they had. The play with the pivot did us quite a bit of damage and I think afterwards we knew, more or less, how to minimize that part of the pivot. In the second half, in the last few matches we are coming out a bit distracted. We lost balls, bad passes, they went up by four, by five. The moment we raised the intensity a bit more, we were back with the match even. We had a good run. We have been fighting until the end for several matches and losing by one goal or drawing. I would like to congratulate all the girls for the championship they have played. Mathematically we are already out of the fight for the top spots. We have two matches left in which we will continue fighting until the end to finish as high as possible. To congratulate this team that, practically adding 4 or 5 players, are from the first-year youth team with some second-year players, but they have given their all, they have fought every match until the end and I would like to congratulate the team. Now we have two matches left, against Pájara and Tacoronte and, as I said, to finish the league as best as possible,” concludes the Tiñosero coach.

Nabila De Ganzo became the top scorer of the clash with seven goals. In Puerto del Carmen, Carla De Marco stood out with six goals.

With this defeat, the tiñoseras remain fourth in the league table with nineteen points after a record of eight wins, two draws, and four defeats. For its part, San José Obrero occupies the second place in the league table with twenty-one points.

With two matchdays left to play, the 'tiñoseras' return to competition this Sunday, March 15, at 12:00, at the Municipal de Tías, with the visit of Club Atlético Pájara, second to last in the standings with six points and who in the last match played fell in Fuerteventura against 3COM Squad Valsequillo (19-33).
