The batatero team starts with a defeat in this Promotion Phase to the Guerreras Iberdrola League, but does not give up and is already prepared for the second assault today against BM Morvedre, at 5:00 p.m. Canary time. A complicated first day against the hosts of the phase, but the CB Zonzamas CICAR Lanzarote managed to face it with strength, despite the fact that Elda Prestigio proposed a very physical match, with great pressure and at high speed, knowing that they had the home field factor and that they were much fresher than their rivals.
All of this did not prevent the batateras from being the first to strike. No one could stop Ingrid Roger from opening the scoring, although the Eldenses quickly responded with a counterattack, foreshadowing what was going to be a match that started with several inaccuracies from both teams, moments in which the red-and-blacks managed to get ahead on the scoreboard early.
Susi Sánchez under the posts and an inspired Danae Miranda left the score at 1-3 in favor of the Lanzarote team. While Elda Prestigio could not find its place in the static possessions against the 6:0 batatera, which did not prevent them from reaching the visitor's net by loading the attack on the outside shot of Graci Duque, who thus solved the passive warnings and also put the tables on the scoreboard.
The first five minutes were up with Miranda putting the score at 3-4 again in what was an exchange of blows at high speed, where the white and blue team would end up turning the score around after several unforced errors by the batateras.
CB Zonzamas CICAR Lanzarote did not get discouraged and continued working in attack to maintain the tie at the end of each possession. It was then that the locals increased the pace even more, never giving up the counterattack, the fast break and the second wave. In addition, the white and blue team changed their defensive system to a 5:1 that slowed down the circulation of the ball, causing new visitor losses that meant the first partials in favor of an Elda Prestigio that also did damage with deep fixations to the odd to transform from the extreme.
The coach, Patro Barambio, was forced to call a time-out before the first quarter of the match was up after the scoreboard showed a dangerous 10-6. CB Zonzamas CICAR Lanzarote wanted to end those eight turnovers in their possession and they did so, cutting the difference with Gleinys Reyes on the counterattack to get closer to 10-8.
But the visitors were much softer in defense, without taking advantage of the permissiveness of the referees. On the other hand, Elda Prestigio was much more aggressive and forceful in their area, a method with which they recovered their four-goal advantage until Marca Cuenca managed to score the 12-9 after the rigorous expulsion of Rafaela Gonçalves. Equally disputed was the exclusion of Lucía Chacón who, together with the appearance of Lucía Prades defending the local goal, ended up leaving a 14-10 five minutes before the break, when two new exclusions were given to red-and-black players that did not prevent Brenda Roger from putting the 15-12 with which they went to the locker room.
The white and blue team resumed the match better, but CB Zonzamas CICAR Lanzarote responded quickly, although the physical only lasted a quarter of an hour. With a great defense also in 5:1, Patro Barambio's team annulled the connection with the pivot or the incursions from the rival extremes. In addition, Ana Martín was making herself noticed in goal. Great performance to which the local goalkeeper responded in the same way, leaving a few minutes with few goals, but a lot of work that was worth putting the score at 17-14 in the first ten minutes of the second half, which would pass to a tie at 18 five minutes later in what was the last red-and-black physical asset, even achieving a new tie at 19 afterwards.
And the second half was divided between the two teams. If the locals only managed to find the goal on three occasions in the first quarter of an hour of this second half, the same would happen with the red-and-black team in the last fifteen minutes of the match. Momentary goal drought for both, but in which a physically fresher Elda Prestigio was able to make a bigger difference.
Ingrid Roger's goal three minutes from the end (26-20) put an end to a local partial of 7-0, concluding the match with Prades signing sixteen saves and a 27-21 that reflects the great effort of CB Zonzamas CICAR Lanzarote, who maintained the level despite the adversities. Almost without time to recover, the batateras are already ready to face the second day of this Promotion Phase that has just begun and that, this time, will face the also dangerous BM Morvedre. CB Zonzamas CICAR Lanzarote will seek to continue enjoying this icing on the cake to an excellent season, especially when it has nothing to lose.
