Borja Pérez and Jordi Díaz take their first victory in Tinajo in the Regional Slalom Championship 2022

The Canary Islands Slalom Championship on Dirt had its Lanzarote event this Saturday with the Tinajo race, Jefry Hernández Memorial, where the great winners were Borja Pérez-Jordi Díaz, who prevailed with the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X in three of the four sections (two in each direction) of the just over 4 km course, adding a total time of 14:10.3, which meant a final advantage of 6 seconds over the next classified.

Also with another Lancer Evo X, the second place would be on this occasion for Juan Carlos Quintana-Yeray Mujica, who only managed to prevail in the third run, despite being the only team that could always ride at the same high pace as the winners in the car section. The best times of the day were 3.29.0 (outward) and 3.32.2 (return), signed by Borja Pérez.

A victory that places Borja and Jordi as co-leaders of the Canary Islands Championship, tied with Jesús Tacoronte-Mariola Sáe,z, who won in ADEA (La Palma), so it would be very interesting to see these two teams fighting for the regional title of dirt slaloms in the following events.

Two favorites missed the event, Esteban Feo and Gustavo Sosa, leaving the third place in the hands of Iriome Perdomo-Francisco Cabrera with the Subaru Impreza, but already with times that moved them away from the leaders of the slalom held in the Tinajo-La Santa area. A minute and two seconds separated them from the head of the classification, so their fight was more with Francisco Alamo-Rita Rodríguez, with another Mitsubishi Evo, who finished fourth just five seconds from the podium and took the trophy of Class 7.

The surprise came with the team of Nahuel Hernández-Natalia Elvira, who took their SEAT Ibiza 1.8 T to fifth place overall and were the first with simple traction vehicles, even surpassing theoretically superior cars. For them it was the triumph in class 5. Raúl Figueroa-Francisco Delgado prevailed in class 4 with the Opel Corsa, in addition to climbing to seventh place overall. In class 3, Javier Lemes-Aridane Hernández won with a Toyota Aygo, finishing 12th overall.

In car-cross, Raúl Armas clearly prevailed on his ground, aboard a Speed-car Xtrem, achieving the unusual difference in this modality, of 22.3 seconds in his favor. The second place on the podium was for Moisés Izquierdo with Yacar, after a good fight for the second step by only 1.1 seconds, with Yeray Pérez finishing third with the Kincar and Moisés Izquierdo fourth, just 1.2 seconds away from taking the podium. The latter and Samuel Martínez were the best in the third and fourth heat, respectively, while the first two were awarded to the winner Raúl Armas. David López won class 10 with an MV Racing.

Among the quads, victory for Javier peña with the Suzuki LTR, by only 2.3 seconds over Marcos Ponce, second finally with Yamaha YFZ, drivers who won two sections each. Iván Morales with the Rieju was the only biker and had no rivals for his triumph.

The event organized by CD. Evesport and promoted by the Tinajo City Council itself concluded in La Santana with a minute of silence, in solidarity for the tragedy in the Rally Comarca Norte de Gran Canaria, in a demonstration of unity of the entire sports car family. Next was the awards ceremony presided over by the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, where there were also emotional moments in memory of the honored Jefry Hernández. Once again, a very good atmosphere among the dirt drivers and satisfied with a very spectacular section and with excellent surface. Although that did not prevent many abandonments, due to mechanical problems of the vehicles, something almost inevitable in this specialty.
