The countdown to the start of the third edition of The Fitness Race Arrecife has been activated with the official presentation of a fitness sporting event based on hybrid races, a model of sports event in "boom at a regional, national and international level", and where Arrecife is positioned as "headquarters within its strategy to be the capital of sports and events in Lanzarote and the Canary Islands". This was highlighted by the mayor of the city, Yonathan de León, during the presentation, which took place at the Agapito Viera Reyes Municipal Football Field, in the Altavista neighborhood.
The mayor of Arrecife recalled during the meeting with the media that Arrecife, through the Departments of Sports and Tourism, is working on a strategy to "position the city as the capital of events and major sporting events, which underpin the revitalization." Thus, he has defended that "a good example" of that institutional commitment can be seen in "the choice of this test, between two neighborhoods such as Tinasoria and Altavista, which at the end of 2023 was remodeled with a large investment.
The III Fitness Race Arrecife will be held this Saturday, February 1, at the Agapito Reyes Viera municipal stadium in Arrecife and will combine six kilometers of running with eight interspersed strength workouts stations. The running sections will have a distance of 700 meters that the participants must travel, going two or three laps around the field until completing the six kilometers.
And, in an interspersed manner, they will face the eight planned strength stations: 1,000 meters of ROW, 200 meters of FARMER CARRY, 40 meters of SLED PULL, 1,000 meters of SKIERG, 100 meters of BURPEE BROAD JUMP, 200 meters of ATLAS RUN, 100 meters of WALKING LUNG and 100 meters of WALL BALLS.
The Fitness Race, for the first time in Arrecife
The mayor of the Arrecife city council, Yonathan de León, was enthusiastic about an initiative “that has great acceptance and that once again makes Lanzarote the capital and the festival of sports. At FITUR we had the opportunity to announce this year's sporting events and The Fitness Race is proof of this with more than 400 registered in a day that will have everything: gastronomy, revitalization, sports and health in a family environment,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Juan Monzón Rosales, Minister of Sports of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, said that “we will continue to support this sporting modality that is booming and that values sport and health throughout the island of Lanzarote in this third edition. We are satisfied and happy that this race is consolidated and established as one of the key events in sports in Lanzarote.”
For her part, the Councilor for Tourism, Commerce, and Sports of the Arrecife City Council, Eli Merino, who together with the mayor already announced at the recent Fitur 2025 international tourism fair, held in Madrid, highlighted “the special nature of a test that brings together the best athletes from Lanzarote and the Canary Islands and that, for the first time, is held in the capital of the island of Lanzarote, which is a great source of pride and a challenge, within our commitment to be the capital of sports.
The participation
The priority objective of the organization has been achieved: reaching 500 registered, a notable number of participants that demonstrates "the growing interest in hybrid races and that will have the capital of the island of Lanzarote as its epicenter in an unforgettable weekend." Promoting sport in an inclusive way and contributing to the improvement of the physical and emotional health of Canarian society becomes an essential objective for the organization of an attractive, different and inspiring test that offers free access for fans who want to enjoy the day.
Finally, David Afonso, one of the organizers and promoters of The Fitness Race Arrecife 2025 invited everyone to experience an event “unrepeatable and that promises strong emotions.
