As a culmination to a great sports weekend, the southern town of Playa Blanca hosted the fifth edition of the Vuelta a Playa Blanca in Handbike on Sunday morning. A unique sporting event that has turned the island of Lanzarote into the epicenter of adapted sport at a national and international level. The Vuelta a Playa Blanca in Handbike is one of the most prestigious events in Europe, and the vast majority of adapted athletes know of the existence of this event organized by the Association for the Promotion of Tourism and Sport without Barriers. Once again, the event was participatory, prioritizing the participation of the 60 handbikers who represented a total of 14 nationalities.
Like last year, the organizers have divided the participants into teams made up of six or seven handbikers. The objective was to create balanced teams, with the obligation to complete the course as a group. In the teams, who could be identified by the spectators by the colors they wore, were great elite athletes who shared a team with participants who are starting out in this attractive sport.
The V Vuelta a Playa Blanca in Handbike had the participation of 60 athletes, representing a total of 14 different nationalities. An event that once again has had the best athletes in this sports modality. The event took place on a circuit through the main streets of Playa Blanca. A fast circuit, in which the handbikers reach breakneck speeds, being quite a spectacle for the public that gathered on Papagayo Avenue.
The victory in the V Vuelta a Playa Blanca in Handbike was for the "Orange" team composed of; Athos Libanore (Switzerland), Stefan Bauman (Germany), Jurgen Doringer (Germany), Christiane Reppe (Germany), Tobias Frankhauser (Switzerland) and Yannick Melon (Belgium). They proved to be the fastest and completed the greatest distance in the time the test lasted.
The second position in the general classification was for the "Blue" team, made up of; Tobias Knecht (Germany), Didier Damiens (Belgium), Michel Muster (Switzerland), Borge Petterson (Norway), Bernd Kohler (Germany) and Kunstle Christoph (Germany). And the third position was for the "Brown" team, composed of; Edward Maalouf (Lebanon), Olaf Heine (Germany), Mark Van Etergem (Belgium), Diego Ballesteros (Spain), Andreas Kiemes (Germany) and Annete Kuhlmann (Germany).
Adapted sport was once again the main protagonist of the V Vuelta a Playa Blanca in Handbike. A great spectacle offered by all the handbikers, fully fulfilling the objective set by the Association for the Promotion of Tourism and Sport without Barriers. An objective that is none other than integration through sport.
