First of all, I must remember that this is my first term as an elected councilor of the municipality, and I exercise the honor of representing the citizens of Arrecife, so I will not speak of the past since it does not provide any solution, what matters is the here and now. As public servants and connoisseurs of the different needs, the councilors of the different political forces entered the City Hall knowing, from the first day, that "the houses of Titerroy" were on the agenda. And, sincerely, in this legislature there has been more than enough time to solve a problem, which, although it is unaffordable for the economy of most families in Arrecife, and specifically for these neighbors, since we are talking about 350 thousand euros approximately. This money does not seem to be an important amount for the capital's government group.
In the plenary session of last Friday, September 30, my vote was against the working commission that the plenary of the council approved, for the processing of the restoration of the houses of Titerroy. Today I have decided to write a few lines explaining why, so that there is no doubt about the will that has guided the meaning of my vote, and the desire that everything is resolved in favor of some neighbors who, of course, do not deserve the torment they are going through.
For this reason I want to say that I find it disrespectful that after almost three and a half years of mandate, and when there are less than 8 months of legislature left, the great idea of the government group headed by its mayoress is to create a working commission, with the rest of the political forces. We have already seen what has happened with the Ginory commission that was approved with great fanfare and as of today it is neither there nor is it expected.
I sincerely believe that this commission was created more to "reassure" the neighbors and to put the problem aside for a while than to solve it. Do we really believe that if this government group had summoned the councilors in the search for solutions for the evicted from Titerroy, someone would have refused?
The sadness that gives me is to see that other less important files have caught the attention of the mayoress and her advisors to take extraordinary measures and solve them in extremis.
That is why I am sure that the creation of the working commission, while putting the rearview mirror in the past, has achieved a political objective, but in no case has it achieved a benefit for the neighbors who have been suffering their eviction for more than a decade.
I do not want to say that this type of files are simple, but I do believe that there has been enough time to resolve it favorably, if it had been on the urgent agenda of the mayoress of Arrecife as others that, being less bloody, have been.
That is why I voted no to the commission: Almost four years after entering to govern this city, this plenary should have had a solution that would solve the problem of the families, not a calendar of "now we start working", and more knowing what these commissions have been worth to date.
My duty as a councilor is to vote in favor of the issues that provide solutions to the different needs, but not of political makeup. If a solution had been brought, my vote would have been in favor, if excuses and alibis are brought to justify the lack of action and work, my vote has to be against.
I hope that this situation is resolved and, sincerely, I believe that it must be done because it is fair. Nobody promises citizens with problems to create commissions, people want solutions.
