Note for the future

June 19 2017 (14:04 WEST)

The Tourist Centers of Lanzarote (CACTS), with a noticeable drop in tourists in the future, will incur losses. We are all aware of the borrowed number of tourists that come to our land every year. We also know that sooner rather than later, reality will put us back in our place regarding the number of visitors who decide to visit us each year. When that happens, at this rate, there will be no way out, and now I will explain why...

The tourist centers that the public company EPEL must sustain are increasing, such as the CC museum, excuse the irony, the Atlantic Museum, whose first year already resulted in significant losses, and now the new work of La Fermina. Where several questions arise: Do you remember the 2.5 million euros that were spent to remodel the facilities? Where is the business plan or the numbers that make it a profitable center? Let it be on record, I am against circuses like the presentation, but not against its fine-tuning with a serious plan and showing its viability.

Another important and weighty aspect is the new hiring at EPEL. "Too many chiefs and not enough Indians," and this is enough to write another article, which I will save for another day. Remind the current management of their approach a few years ago to reduce the workforce because the numbers were not sustainable.

And lastly, the restaurant business, which they say has increased by 11%. These would be good numbers if the number of visitors did not increase, but the reality is that they have increased by the same percentage. The restaurant business continues to be the Achilles' heel of the Centers, and while other restaurants invite us to enjoy their products at the exit of each center, we are not able to say "good morning Mr. or Mrs. X, you can enjoy a typical menu with Canarian food, food from our land, at the Farmer's Monument."

This is a note for the future, to remind them tomorrow that the company's bankruptcy is not the fault of others, but of themselves.
