OUR Island Council is the governing and administrative body of all of us who

live on the island of Lanzarote. I say "OUR" because it is a Corporation that

belongs to everyone and owes itself to everyone.

OUR Council must defend the General Interests of the island of Lanzarote and its

citizens, above those that any political party, Association or Collective that

had representatives, or not, among the members of the Corporation might have. Does the current Government Group meet this premise? Absolutely not.

Last Friday, May 11, OUR President, Mr. San Ginés, signed a Resolution designating a law firm in Madrid to represent us in the Appeal against the Royal Decree by which the Council of Ministers authorized oil exploration.

The authorization of the Council of Ministers benefits Lanzarote because, to the extent that one day we know what is under the Spanish waters in which the explorations are going to be carried out, to the extent that we obtain that information without being at a disadvantage with Morocco and also, to the extent that these studies are carried out with all environmental guarantees, the irrefutable knowledge of reality will allow appropriate decisions to be made and taken.

The Resolution signed by the President of the Cabildo should respond to the General Interests and, however, responds to those of the minority. Why do I affirm this? What am I basing this on? I do so based on my own convictions, those of the political party to which I belong and on the only possible objective factor with respect to what the General Interest refers to: the very limited support, of 6% of the total population of the island, which aroused the demonstration against the explorations of March 24.

Probably the presidential decision to hire the aforementioned legal services responds to a subjectivity similar to the one used by me when I have previously referred to the fact that it responded to the interests of the minority. That is, to the President's own convictions and to those of the political parties that support the Government Group. However, it is impossible that it has been based on the results of the demonstration, since 9,000 demonstrators neither indicate any majority nor represent the General Interests. Quite the opposite.

Beyond the serious and incongruous fallacies of Paulino Rivero and José Miguel Pérez, when showing unequivocal media support for the explorations for months after denying it and ardently promoting the no, what truly underlies is the short-sighted political desperation of being swallowed up by the magnificent and courageous management of the Popular Party of the chaotic situation inherited and contributed to by PSC and CC throughout the past legislature. That is, the Parties that maintain the Government Group of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Government of the Canary Islands have found a cause, which they use as a smokescreen, to mask their aliquot responsibility in the drama that the Canary Islands are suffering and to torpedo the Popular Party from offering a fabulous solution via a possible future exploitation of certain natural resources. Admit that the PP saves the Canary Islands? I'd rather take everything with me, including myself! That is the miserable but true reading.

But returning to OUR Cabildo and OUR President, the impudence and shamelessness that I believe surround the erroneous Resolution, deserve the show of my firmest rejection as a citizen and neighbor of Lanzarote, who sees and verifies how my money is being used in a cause that goes against the General Interests of Lanzarote.

But time puts everyone in their place and mistakes are paid for
