In principle, produce energy and water with renewables, then see what other sectors are gradually being incorporated. That is, above all, to have water and energy autonomy. Yes or yes, if we want those levels of autonomy, freedom and security, it will have to be with renewables. Obviously, a nuclear or thermal power plant is not possible here.
(Competitions?) Nobody around here has the slightest intention of being the first, in fact, we have self-appointed ourselves, the eighth and the others, as far as I know, did not have an assigned position. As for the boat lines, they have been able to maintain those shipping lines of the town (something that Lanzarote, the Canary Islands or Spain would like) and that will continue to be eternally difficult, I see them more than capable in a distant future, of being pioneers in this matter. First of all, we try to decarbonize the debate. As for the Safari jeeps, more of the same. Blessed are those jobs. And hopefully, and it is more than possible, they will end up being a reference for an exemplary service. Everything is learned. And everything takes its order in time. Like the rest of the vehicles.
La Graciosa is what it is. Now. And in that now we have to manage. I remember perfectly that the old people of La Graciosa, for the most part, no longer wanted their descendants to dedicate themselves to fishing, the same thing happened in Lanzarote and the rest of the Canary Islands. The same in some way with agriculture. The change comes from a long time ago, it is not that the kids have gone crazy now. Young people and not so young people, had not even been born when all this was forged. Don't blame them.
It was obvious that, sooner or later, La Graciosa would fully enter the tourist scene.
But here, at least, nature is even more alive than before in many aspects. And that has taken its efforts and renunciations (sometimes willingly and others with very little) on the part of everyone.
So why not?, with not much time left for me to be in this world, I can think that in the not too distant future this town will be autonomous in the production of energy and water and that its vehicles and boats will be the same. And that fishing and agriculture and so many things will be making their way while we moderate and rationalize the runaway emotions of tourism. Each thing in its order of time. Things are going to get very difficult if it is not like that. And even so, they will be. They always were. Those who changed from sails to mechanical engines would see it even more difficult, the possibility of getting to have them and the tremendous effort it took. From salt to ice. Everything is constantly evolving, and nobody now has the remotest idea of what this will be like in 2030, and much less if they will be around to see it. Will Europe be there? Will something have been decarbonized or will it have become more enraged.
I personally have always had absolute confidence in the capacity of this small town to adapt to circumstances and do it as best they know how. When fishing also had problems, debates, fights and uses and arts that some saw as good and others did not, even about the control of the brotherhood that was carried out from Arrecife. Now it is tourism. And what we are able to invent. With water and light produced and hopefully managed here, what is not possible? The Energy Community "El Sol de La Graciosa" is part of this town. Daughter of this town and of the new times. Born here and now. Aware of its roots, but aware of this now.
A lady from Orzola told me many years ago, Ginés, times don't change, they are always the same, it is the people who change. And it was like that, but perhaps now humans are changing the times, the psychic, the spatial and the physical. I usually say that getting this forward is like building a puzzle among everyone, but a puzzle from which we lost a good part of its final image. And that some pieces are also missing. But also, those of us who have to build it are beings who are assembling our own inner puzzle without a clear image of who we really are, or what our image is to finish.
Now, in addition, there are other people who have their houses here and spend long seasons here and also negotiate like us here. And who are interested like us in the process being cool for everyone. So, in my opinion, all that remains is attention, that is our great strength, being attentive to each other is the greatest manifestation of love, accompanying us, comrades. And the best way to de-stress the world. Because if the world is de-stressed, what can't we do?
My dream, the one I've always had, is already beginning to germinate. A great nautical center where children and not so children can turn their lives back to the sea. The physical space is there. The best in the world with the best climate in the world. And also, the land next to the sea is also there, public, for everyone, like the wind, the sun and the sea, waiting. At the service of the people. Wealth and nature, why not? De-stressed it's even easy. And then there is gratitude, that gratitude that grows and grows to so many people who are helping us so much and with so much enthusiasm. I insist, I am moved to achieve, together with everyone, the freedom and availability of energy and water, and the decarbonization and de-stressing that occurs as a side effect.
And to finish, I stick to the example that the city council of our municipality gave the other day, by giving institutional support unanimously to the process. So symbolic that it was expressed in a plenary session in our town. Caleta del Sebo, that is its name, always so forgotten. I think it is the best tribute we can pay to all those who are no longer here and who kept the town alive with severe living conditions. Imagine telling them that we now make water from the sun. That it rains will no longer be a desperation, it will be a party. It will always be the best water. A place of life, properly managed by everyone. Being a tiny part of that, for me is a great image of me. Of my inner Puzzle.
Graciosa, thank you.
