They told us it was impossible. Newspaper pages and hours of discussion after the 2019 elections with the open scenario of who was going to govern the Canary Islands after the electoral process of May 26. The PSOE won and led the initiative from that same night to form a government with 25 deputies to make it possible. It wasn't easy, but we made it possible.
That morning of June 22, 2019 in the García Sanabria Park, in the flower clock that would give its name to the pact; the Pact of the Flowers, it was a bright day, we found militancy of the four political formations, excited and full of responsibility for what we knew was coming.
We committed ourselves to the citizens and we committed ourselves to three other political formations with a viable, realistic and also exciting and hopeful roadmap.
A roadmap that with all the adversities has been fulfilled, is being fulfilled and will continue to be fulfilled.
Our objectives today are more valid than ever; social justice, the solidarity economy and sustainable development, three axes that are found in the obligatory Canary Islands Agenda for Sustainable Development sealed in the Pact of Los Jameos last December and that is a clear sign of the Government's commitment to the present and future of the Canary Islands. And, above all, of its capacity to manage today and project the future of the Canary Islands.
Three years later, a pandemic, a volcano, zero tourism and other known incidents, also today three years later with a Canary Islands Law on Climate Change and Citizen Income; with public places for Education 0-3 years for the first time in our history, with the increase and improvement of Dual FP; with a record in affiliates to Social Security and permanent contracts thanks to the labor reform of the Government of Spain; with more benefits and therefore greater social protection; reinforcement of the scholarship policy; the Canary Islands Cares Plan; the Plan to support entrepreneurship; the Pact for Science.
Today public housing is being built in the Canary Islands after years, with the management of direct aid to companies and the self-employed as we had never seen before; with greater consumption of renewable energy; the strengthening of the Mental Health network; a historic investment in the Canary Islands Health Service, which will serve, among other things, so that this year we have the largest increase in hospital beds, that our public employees have stability, with greater weight of the audiovisual sector in our economy; diversifying our productive sector.
This has already happened. This is happening. And we do not fall into complacency, we know that we have much to do, but we also know that the Canary Islands of today, thanks to each of these policies, is better than the one we found three years ago when that morning we signed the Pact of the Flowers. It is not a surprise either, we knew we would do it, we knew we would comply.
A social commitment that is unequivocal, that we strengthen every day with policies and actions but also from honesty and public exemplarity.
The PSOE is called to continue leading the path initiated, with a dedicated and conscious president and with a solid project that will continue to respond to so many needs and so many expectations.
