The Air and Space Force, in collaboration with the Teguise City Council, is organizing two days that will host various activities, including acrobatics in the sky of Costa Teguise. The mayor, Oswaldo Betancort, and the chief colonel of the Lanzarote Military Airfield, José Vicente, presented this Wednesday the activities that will take place this Friday, October 21 and Saturday, October 22, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the town.
“A very important anniversary for the municipality, which we have the honor of celebrating together with the Air and Space Force, for its work in defending the Archipelago through the Canary Islands Air Command, and because we are united by a very decisive event for the tourist development of the island, such as the cession of the taxiway that allowed Lanzarote to have a civil airport”, said Oswaldo Betancort during the presentation.
The Teguise City Council and the Air and Space Force invite "all the people of Lanzarote to enjoy the two days", which will host several proposals: aerial demonstrations by the SAR and the PAPEA; an exhibition that includes a virtual shooting simulator, flight simulator, flight material from the F-18 Squadron and the Search and Rescue Service (SAR) of the Air Force located in Wing 46 of the Gando Air Base; the concert of the Music Unit of the Canary Islands Air Command; the unveiling of a plaque in honor of the Águila Patrol; the solemn lowering of the Flag of Spain with an act of homage to the fallen and subsequent military parade, in addition to an institutional recognition of the Villa de Teguise City Council to the Air and Space Force that will take place in the Convent of Santo Domingo in the Villa de Teguise.
Among the aforementioned events, the exhibition of 12 paratroopers from the Parachute Acrobatic Patrol of the Air and Space Force (PAPEA) stands out, who will fly over the sky of Costa Teguise after being launched from a C212 plane on Las Cucharas beach, over which they will make 4 passes displaying the flag of the Canary Islands and that of Spain, showing their skill in the air. As a prelude to this exhibition, the public will first enjoy (from 11.45 on Saturday) the intervention of a SAR helicopter, which will give a rescue demonstration at sea. Therefore, the parachuting exhibition is scheduled for 12.15 pm and will last 20 minutes.
