The parents of the IES Zonzamas have reiterated this Thursday their "indignation" at the changes proposed by the Ministry of Education, which they are asking to respond to their demands. In a statement, they explain that on April 26, the students delivered 800 signatures to the Ministry rejecting their proposal to reorganize the school map of Arrecife and that Education has not responded. "30 days have passed, what value do they have today? Don't our sons and daughters deserve an answer?", they ask.
The parents emphasize that behind these signatures is their "indignation" at the "improvisation" of the Ministry, which they believe is still "in time" to "understand" what these signatures reflect. In addition, they say they are collecting more in the streets of Arrecife.
"We still don't understand why our children will be left without their institute. Four hundred students and forty secondary school teachers will not be able to continue with an educational project, for us, stable and with a future", the parents of this center add. Together with the students and teachers, they have been demanding that their departure from the institute when it becomes a vocational training center be "as a bloc", as they believe that the Education proposal implies the "segregation" of their educational community.

"We do not believe that the disappearance of any educational center, school or institute, is good for Arrecife", continue the parents, who say they feel like "second-class, helpless families". "Do public institutions, local and island, whether or not they have powers in education, also have an obligation to defend what is best for all their citizens?"
"We feel like numbers handled in political offices"
"We feel like numbers, handled in the offices of politicians. They tell us that our children will have a guaranteed place in another center. We say that we want it to be with the same educational project, with the same teachers", they point out. They are referring to the Education proposal, which suggests that part of the students and teachers of Zonzamas teach and receive classes for 4 courses at the IES Arrecife, until the current Mercedes Medina school becomes an institute. Parents, students and teachers have jointly defended on previous occasions that this would mean the rupture of their educational project.
"We see that a solution is possible that can give continuity to the secondary school project of the current Zonzamas. That is, without an institute disappearing, and affecting the smallest number of educational communities in the capital", they point out.
"We believe that the Ministry of Education has not given us any reason to invalidate our proposal to save an institute, as a bloc, students and teachers. We believe that it can still understand our eight hundred reasons. And we continue to add, with a leaflet in hand in the streets of Arrecife. Many ordinary citizens, who have listened to us, understand it and give us their support", they conclude.
