Yaiza will hire a team of experts to develop the Special Tourism Plan

The government team of the Yaiza City Council approved in the extraordinary plenary session held yesterday with the support of the Socialist Party (PSOE) the initiation of a file to hire a team of people who will prepare the Territorial Tourism Plan of the municipality.

The objective is to achieve its subsequent contribution and integration into the new document being prepared by the Cabildo, which by law must be completed before April of next year.

Those in charge of drafting this project will be a multidisciplinary group of experts made up of architects and urban planners of international renown. On this aspect, the mayor of Yaiza, José Francisco Reyes, highlighted that this document aims to define the new programming of the accommodation plant and the new public facilities, endowments, services, landscape and green spaces of the different urbanizations and tourist areas located in the municipal district.

"Useless" expense

During the plenary session and on this aspect the Popular Party voted against it because, according to the councilor of this formation, José Carlos Rojas, the plan is to contract with a company to make a proposal to the Cabildo that would later have to fit it into its plan for the entire Island.

"It seems to me that with the problems that exist between the Cabildo and the Yaiza City Council, this is going to be a useless waste of money and effort and it is not going to be useful at all," said José Carlos Rojas. In this way, the PP spokesperson considers that the procedure is for the Island Corporation to present the Territorial Tourism Plan for Lanzarote and when what there is on Yaiza is seen, make the corresponding allegations.

As for the Party of Independents of Lanzarote, its councilors opted for abstention. In this case, they pointed out that despite agreeing with the measure, their vote is subject to knowing the characteristics of the project, that is, "what it is going to cost or how many technicians there will be," said the spokesperson for this political group in Yaiza, Gladys Acuña.

Other aspects

The rest of the plenary session was characterized by the unanimous approval of the other four points. In this way, it agreed to the modification on the proposal of two local holidays. In this way, an error made when sending the date of Los Remedios, which is September 8, and San Marcial, July 7, to the Government of the Canary Islands is corrected.

The government team and the opposition also approved requesting the territorial management of the cadastre to sign a collaboration agreement. It must be remembered that Yaiza will soon have a cadastral information point, so the purpose is that through the agreement the residents of the municipality, through the municipal window, can access the cadastre information.

Institute and barracks of Playa Blanca

Another of the agreements reached in the plenary session was to request the Cabildo for the necessary modifications within the Partial Plan of Montaña Roja for the construction of the Playa Blanca institute and the Civil Guard barracks. The mayor of Yaiza indicated that this measure is intended to unblock the classification of the land ceded by the City Council to the Ministry of Education of the Canary Islands Executive and the Ministry of the Interior respectively.

In different plenary sessions, the City Council granted free of charge two plots belonging to the municipal heritage inside the Montaña Roja urbanization. The paralysis of the adaptation of the Island Plan for Territorial Planning of Lanzarote (PIOT) and the resolutions of the Law of guidelines of the Government of the Canary Islands have hindered the specific modifications in this partial plan to be able to execute these public equipment works.

Cultural management of the Pechiguera Lighthouse

Finally, the plenary session agreed to request the First Institution for an agreement for the cultural and recreational management of the Pechiguera Lighthouse. This historic building, currently in disuse and transferred by the Port Authority of Las Palmas to the Cabildo, is located in the Playa Blanca area. It was designed by the Canarian engineer León y Castillo. Since the eighties of the last century XX it was replaced by a new, more modern and automatic tower. The objective is to rehabilitate it and allocate it to a cultural and leisure center.
