The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, signed this Friday the decree by which the City Council assumes the commitment with the company Urbaser to update the prices of urban solid waste collection in the municipality according to the variation of the CPI in the province of Las Palmas. In this way, the local Administration will now start paying 96,000 euros per month for the provision of the service, 15,000 euros more than what it had been paying each month, a decision that not only puts an end to the disagreement with Urbaser, which acquires the commitment to improve the service with the provision of more technical resources, but also unblocks the signing of the collective agreement with its workers subject to the agreement reached with the City Council.

“These have been long negotiations where, as is natural, each party defends its interests, in any case, I do want to make it very clear, and I conveyed this to the workers in the various meetings held during this year, that our will has always been to respect their rights, as, of course, we have defended the provision of a good service to citizens,” emphasizes the mayor, who also confirms the cancellation of the strike scheduled from August 1 and the signing by him of the credit reservation “for the specifications of the new tender for the service that we announced with the approval of the 2023 municipal budget.”

The agreement also implies that Yaiza will pay Urbaser the amounts with retroactive effect from 2022 for the increase in service costs duly certified by the municipal technical office valued at 159,000 euros. “That reckless bid by the company that provided the service in 2018 resulted in several problems that we have managed to address without putting at risk the municipal accounts or the provision of the service, except for specific incidents that have already been resolved,” concludes the mayor.
