The Yaiza City Council paid tribute this Sunday to municipal agents with nearly three decades "serving citizen security." The event coincided with the day of Santa Catalina, patron saint of the Local Police. Máximino Sepúlveda Melián, with 25 years of service, Emilio Hernández Hernández, who has 27 years as a local police officer, and Mateo Ramón de la Cruz, the longest-serving active agent in the force, with 30 years of service, were honored by the Council.

The event was attended by colleagues and family members of the honorees, as well as members of the Civil Guard and councilors of the Corporation. The councilor of the area, Francisco Guzmán Rodríguez, thanked the three officers for "their work and commitment to the Local Police and to the citizens of the municipality of Yaiza."

"The City Council praises the work of the three agents honored this year and that of the entire Local Police staff, including administrative personnel, who renew with their daily action the vocation of service to others," he stated. The ceremony of awarding distinctions and diplomas was preceded by a crowded religious service in the church of Yaiza.

Santa Catalina Program

In addition, during the past week, several training and entertainment activities were developed within the program of celebrations on the occasion of the Day of Santa Catalina. The Local Police of Yaiza involved police officers from all the municipalities of Lanzarote in these days. In addition, several championships were held.

Thus, the first three places in the police shooting classification went to Alejandro Andueza, Local Police of San Bartolomé, Jonatan Lemes Viera, Local Police of Yaiza, and Sheray Fernández, Local Police of Tinajo. The honor roll in clay pigeon shooting was formed by three agents of the Local Police of Yaiza: Eugenio Caraballo, Jacobo Rosa Arteaga and Emilio Hernández. The City Council presented trophies to the first classified in these modalities.
