"The presence of our agents, their rapid intervention and their work in the prevention and prosecution of organized crime have allowed us to live in a safer society," said the island director of the General State Administration in Lanzarote, Pedro Viera, in an emotional act that he presided over in honor of the Day of the Holy Guardian Angels and the Day of the National Police.

This commemoration, which marks 200 years of history, pays tribute to the commitment, sacrifice and dedication of the National Police agents in their work to guarantee the security, rights and freedoms of citizens.

Viera stressed the importance of the Police in the fight against crimes that affect human dignity, such as terrorism, gender violence, human trafficking and cybercrime. During the ceremony, special mention was made of the increase in hate crimes in recent years and the work of the agents in containing these crimes, which attack vulnerable groups for reasons of race, sexual orientation and gender, was praised. "Every time an agent acts, he does so not only to enforce the law, but to protect the coexistence and dignity of all citizens," said the island director.

The management of irregular immigration was also a prominent issue. In a context marked by the recent shipwreck of a boat near the coast of El Hierro, Pedro Viera conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims and reaffirmed the commitment of the National Police to work from a humanitarian and respectful approach with human rights. "This event reminds us of the urgency of seeking more humane and safe solutions for those who flee from hunger, war and misery," he commented.

The role of women in the National Police

Likewise, the work of the decorated agents was recognized, who, in the words of the island director, are an example of dedication and effort not only for their colleagues, but also for the entire society. The ceremony also served to celebrate the incorporation of women into the National Police, which marked a milestone 45 years ago. "Women have demonstrated undeniable dedication, professionalism and courage, contributing in a fundamental way to the construction of a more diverse and effective police force," he added.

Finally, he made a call to society to support the security forces and work together for a more just and safe country. "Security is not only the responsibility of the Police, but a common good that we must all protect," he concluded.

The act ended with words of gratitude towards the families of the agents, who silently endure the absences and risks of this noble profession, and with general congratulations for the Day of the Holy Custodians and the Day of the National Police.
