The investments of the Canary Islands Government in education have once again highlighted the gap in the government group of Teguise. From the City Council they have sent two different press releases on the same morning talking about the same news: the tender for the Costa Teguise nursery by the regional Executive. And while from the PSOE, the councilor Lourdes Cabrera has celebrated this investment, the mayor, Oswaldo Betancort, has sent another statement shortly after recalling that there are "other priority works for the educational community of the municipality".
Betancort has thanked this investment of "just over 471,000 euros", but added that "it is a pity that Costa Teguise cannot receive its first children coinciding with the start of the school year next September", since the works have not yet begun and will last for six months.
In addition, although he stressed that it is "a long-awaited news that our citizens finally have an educational center for children", he has once again reproached the Ministry of Education of the regional government, which is in the hands of the PSOE. "It is my duty as mayor to remember that Teguise has another priority in educational infrastructure, such as the CEIP Costa Teguise, a benchmark in the Lanzarote educational community, as well as a necessary service for the more than 7,000 inhabitants of the Costa Teguise nucleus", added the mayor, who recalls that less than two weeks ago he demanded that the Ministry of Education fulfill its commitment to improve the Costa Teguise school, once the General Plan of Ordination already allows the educational use for the plot in which the center is located and that would allow its expansion.
At the time, that statement was already answered by his government partner in Teguise, who sent another statement denying that there are delays in the CEIP Costa Teguise and asking for "respect and institutional loyalty".
However, the mayor has once again insisted on the same claim. "The extension is a demand of the educational community that has been stopped for many years by different administrative and bureaucratic obstacles that have already been solved with the municipal planning, therefore, we reiterate once again that the City Council has complied with the administrative procedure that was requested and we trust that it is now the Ministry that complies with its part", reiterates this new statement from the mayor.
Cabrera's indictment for alleged "disclosure of secrets"
To these disagreements between CC and the PSOE in Teguise is added the controversy after the indictment of the socialist councilor Lourdes Cabrera for an alleged crime of disclosure of secrets, since the affected is precisely a councilor of Coalición Canaria.
Specifically, what was leaked were emails from the Councilor for Festivities, Daniel Morales, who filed a complaint for these events. After the judicial investigation, last week it was learned that Cabrera has been summoned to testify as accused, for his alleged participation in the filtration of those mails.
After learning the news, Daniel Morales himself said that he will be prudent until Cabrera declares on September 5, but he said that if the facts are confirmed, there will be "more than an earthquake" in the government group.
