The Municipal Archive hall of the Arrecife City Council hosted this Thursday morning the celebration of the first theoretical exam organized by the Department of Transport and Mobility, led by the councilor Mario González Altube, which will allow people who pass to access the taxi driver's license in the capital of Lanzarote.

This new call for exams, carried out by the Municipal Government led by Mayor Yonathan de León, aims to cover the shortage of taxi professionals, allowing these public service vehicles to operate 24 hours a day, every day of the week, with three daily shifts. The Arrecife City Council already has a date for the next call for tests to obtain the taxi driver's license in the municipality of Arrecife where 36 people have been admitted.

The Councilor for Transport and Mobility, Mario González Altube, present in the room, has detailed, according to the data of the Qualifying Tribunal, that of the 37 people admitted in the call this Thursday, only 26 applicants have appeared for this first test to pass the first exam, theoretical type, which will allow – after passing the exams (in addition to this theoretical one, the practical one) to be a taxi driver in the municipality of Arrecife, where the sector is experiencing a very dynamic moment due to the great boom that the city is experiencing due to leisure, shopping, hospitality, and the resurgence of tourism.

The examining board is made up of municipal technicians and a representative of the taxi drivers' union in the city of Arrecife. People who pass this first theoretical exam must also pass the next one, a practical exercise, to obtain this mandatory permit that enables them to work as a taxi driver in the municipality of Arrecife.

The mayor of the city, Yonathan de León, details that the taxi sector in Arrecife is generating many job opportunities for people who opt for a new job. Due to the number of current taxi licenses in Arrecife, this sector generates more than 400 direct jobs that can cover the three daily shifts throughout the year.

The Councilor for Mobility and Transport, Mario González Altube, has highlighted that this new call for aptitude tests aimed at obtaining the Municipal Taxi Driver's Permit in the Municipality of Arrecife is integrated into the measures agreed with the taxi sector to cover the new needs of drivers after the recent entry into force of the update of taxi fares in Arrecife, which until the entry into force of its update, was among the lowest in Spain.

The Municipal Government foresees that taxis can have a greater presence in the neighborhoods of Arrecife by covering the three daily shifts throughout the week, with more professionals who can cover the jobs generated by this transport service.
