As is tradition, with the arrival of February, the Parranda Marinera Los Buches comes alive with activity to give visibility to one of the most beloved cultural manifestations of the Canary Islands: the Los Buches carnival. The "buchazos" and masks, along with the colorful ribboned hats and traditional attire, bring back to the streets one of the most iconic masks in the entire archipelago.
The Carnaval de Los Buches is a true heritage treasure and, from the Board of Directors, together with its members, the association has designed a first-class cultural plan.
Spectacle "Banderas del Tiempo" at "El Salinero"
The central focus of the program is the show “Banderas del Tiempo,” a theatrical performance that brings all the essence of the entrudo to the stage. The performance will take place on February 13, at 8:00 PM, at the Víctor Fernández Gopar “El Salinero” Theater, with tickets already on sale through the Cultura Lanzarote platform: https://culturalanzarote.sacatuentrada.es/es/entradas/las-banderas
del-tiempo-de-parranda-marinera-de-buches/2026-02-13 . The project is being developed in coordination with the Cabildo of Lanzarote and, as in previous editions, aims to surprise the public with an innovative format that combines modernity and tradition, offering the possibility of experiencing the essence of Carnival in a comfortable and accessible space. Well-known guests from the house will participate, such as Ernesto Alemán, Adrian Niz, Omar Pérez, or Carmen García, and they will be joined by Gabriel Cubas, Gustavo Navarro, Nacho S. Miranda, and Javier Ferrer, among others.
Traditional Carnival of Arrecife (entrudo)
In Arrecife, where the entrudo is an inseparable part of the city's collective memory, Los Buches celebrate their traditional carnival as a manifestation of shared identity. For this reason, the association and the Arrecife City Council have programmed three actions aimed at recovering and safeguarding the Traditional Carnival. On February 7, at 10:30 AM, the arrival of Los Buches by boat at the Pescadería Pier will symbolically announce the arrival of carnival in the capital, kicking off a parade in which Los Buches, as protagonists, will march alongside Los Diabletes de Teguise and other invited traditions and characters, reinforcing a common strategy in defense of the old carnival. Due to works at the Casa Amarilla, the old proclamation and the carnival announcement will be made this year from the Kiosk of Music, where the different traditions will offer a sample of their dances and forms. The event will conclude in Plaza de Las Palmas with a concert of traditional carnival music by Los Buches. Traditional carnival torrijas will be distributed during the parade. In addition, there will be parades of Los Buches on Carnival Monday in the morning through the center of Arrecife and on Carnival Tuesday in the afternoon through the Charco de San Ginés.

Traditional Carnival of Puerto del Carmen
Los Buches are street, joy, and revelry. For this reason, together with the Tías City Council, the Traditional Carnival of Puerto del Carmen has been organized, an event that in its last edition stood out for its closeness, its color, and its impact among visitors and the local population. The parade will take place on Friday, February 20, at 5:00 PM, with a route from the Playa Chica Pier to the Varadero Square. Los Buches will participate along with Sábanas del Carnaval, Los Diabletes de Teguise, Toro de Tiagua, as well as giants, big-heads, and other carnival characters. The Libreas de El Palmar will participate as invited group, reinforcing a commitment to a format with tourist appeal and, at the same time, strong local expression, aimed at preserving the cultural values of Lanzarote.
Playa Blanca and other municipalities
The program will conclude on March 13th with the Traditional Playa Blanca Parade in the town center at 5:00 PM, which will put the finishing touch on the set of events planned for 2026. Likewise, the association continues to refine details with the Teguise City Council and the Haría City Council with the aim of expanding the presence of Los Buches in different towns on the island.
Audiovisual exhibition
In the exhibition sphere, the show "Audiovisual History of Los Buches" remains open to the public at the entity's social headquarters. This project by cameraman Rafael Medina, who has made part of his private archive available to the public, offers a direct look at the daily life and historical trajectory of the association. The exhibition can be visited by appointment through guided tours led by the author himself, by requesting them via email at [email protected] at Calle Ico nº2, Sede Social de Los Buches.
Call for citizen participation
La Parranda Marinera Los Buches invites citizens to participate in the Traditional Carnival activities dressed in the classic "mascarita" or as "revestidos," a simple, family-friendly, and festive way to experience the carnival, for both adults and children.
Artistic Posters
The posters for Los Buches' activities, as every year and following the mandate of tradition, can be seen and enjoyed in the lobby of the Agustín de la Hoz House of Culture. The posters have been designed by writer and illustrator Lana Corujo, demonstrating the association's firm commitment to professional arts and to supporting contemporary creative work linked to the island.

La Parranda Marinera Los Buches is one of the oldest cultural manifestations of music and dance in the Canary Islands linked to the Arrecife carnival cycle. With dances documented since 1711 and its current form established around the mid-19th century, it constitutes an example of historical continuity, cultural resistance, and community pride. In 2023, it was recognized with the Gold Medal, and it is currently undergoing the process for its declaration as a Good of Cultural Interest (intangible cultural heritage) by the Government of the Canary Islands, supported by the unanimous declaration of the Arrecife City Council in 2024, which urged the Cabildo of Lanzarote to initiate the corresponding procedures and file.
