The III Employment Fair of Tías opened its doors this Thursday in El Pavón square with significant citizen participation and the presence of 35 companies, entities, and collectives linked to the labor and training fields. The event, organized by the Tías City Council, has registered 194 registered individuals in the various workshops and scheduled activities, coming from the seven municipalities of Lanzarote.
The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, inaugurated the fair this morning, highlighting the objective of bringing job opportunities “to the heart of the municipality,” after the previous two editions were held in Puerto del Carmen. He was accompanied by the Councilor for Employment, Carmen Gloria Rodríguez, the president of the Tourist Federation of Lanzarote, Susana Pérez, and the vice president of Gehocan Lanzarote, David Ayala.
The Councilor for Employment, Carmen Gloria Rodríguez, stated that “we want to continue promoting useful, real, and close active employment policies, generating opportunities for all people seeking to enter the labor market or reinvent themselves professionally.”
Throughout the day, the fair offers conferences, practical workshops, and direct networking spaces between companies and job seekers. Among the most in-demand topics are workshops on the use of artificial intelligence applied to job searching, preparing for job interviews, mental resilience during job search processes, and returning to the labor market after a period of inactivity.
According to a report from the Tías City Council, 330 participations have been recorded in the four specialized workshops scheduled, with an average of 1.7 activities per registered person. The workshop “How AI can help you in your job search” has been the most requested, even reaching maximum capacity in one of its sessions.
The profile of the attendees also reflects the social and educational reach of the initiative. 37.1% of the registered individuals are unemployed, and more than 52% belong to the student collective, including students from high schools and training centers in different municipalities on the island.
José Juan Cruz underlined during his speech that “the Tías Employment Fair is not just an event, but a practical tool to improve the real opportunities of the citizens”. The mayor added that the City Council will continue working “to consolidate and expand initiatives that have a direct impact on people's lives and contribute to strengthening equal opportunities”.
The mayor also highlighted the incorporation of a social perspective into this edition's program, recalling that female unemployment continues to be one of the major labor challenges. In this regard, he highlighted the performance scheduled for this afternoon by the Canarian comedian Omayra Cazorla, whose participation “combines closeness, reflection, and visibility of the difficulties that many women continue to face in the workplace”.
Business associations, training entities, social organizations, hotel companies, temporary employment agencies, and groups linked to labor insertion and social diversity are participating in the fair.
