Although the leader of the Municipal Platform of Haría, José Torres Stinga, stated just three days ago that his party was going to "reflect" after the lack of agreement with the PSOE to seal a pact and that the possibility of governing with CC was "practically non-existent", the truth is that in the next few hours an alliance between his party and CC could be sealed. And it is that, Torres Stinga has decided to "step aside" to facilitate an agreement, although, yes, demanding that it be his number two, Evelia García, who becomes the new mayor of the municipality.
This has been confirmed to La Voz by Torres Stinga himself, who has indicated that this Friday there will be a meeting of the negotiating committee to discuss this proposal, after another meeting that the general secretary of CC, Migdalia Machín, and the number two of the Municipal Platform of Haría, Evelia García, already held this Wednesday.
"I am not going to be an obstacle", said Torres Stinga, who has stated that if he has changed his decision regarding reaching an agreement with CC, it is because "the situation with the PSOE is irreconcilable". "And we have the obligation to provide stability to the City Council, because above personal interests is the protection of a town", he pointed out.
"If he would give up the Mayor's office, I don't know", said the mayor of Haría, Marci Acuña, this Thursday morning on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero, who, however, did point out, after having taken the baton of command of the municipality even in minority, that he believed that now "it would be a lack of respect" if he left the City Council. However, Torres Stinga has stated that his party has not demanded his resignation, so Acuña could resign as mayor but continue as councilor.
It should be remembered that the differences between the PSOE and the Municipal Platform of Haría to close a pact before the constitution of the City Council lay in who should occupy the Mayor's office, whether the socialist Alfredo Villalba -who was the second most voted behind CC- or José Torres Stinga, who came in third place although also obtaining three councilors like the socialists. And it is that, the head of the list of the Municipal Platform of Haría understood that there were some "agreements" with the PSOE for his investiture as mayor.
However, the PSOE councilor, Alfredo Villalba, denied that there was an agreement to give the Mayor's office to the Municipal Platform of Haría in exchange for receiving their support for the candidacy to the Cabildo. "That agreement did not exist and therefore we were quite clear about what our position was", said the socialist councilor three days ago, who pointed out, however, that the intention of the PSOE was to continue talking with the Municipal Platform of Haría, who, however, has now confirmed that it considers the negotiations with the socialists closed, announcing its proposal launched to CC.
