The National Parks of the Canary Islands now have a new identifying logo. "Inspiring Colors" was the proposal selected in the contest organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Environment of the Government of the Canary Islands to represent these four emblematic natural spaces of the islands. The winning logo must now be submitted to the Canary Islands National Parks Commission for final approval of use.

The winning design, by creative director Pedro Olivares Lozano, was the image unanimously selected by the jury. The jury's decision coincided with the popular vote, as citizens had the opportunity to choose their preferred candidate from the seven finalists selected in the first phase of the contest, through an Internet voting system. The distinguished logo will receive a prize of 5,000 euros and the remaining six will receive a consolation prize of 250 euros.

The jury was made up of the head of the area, Domingo Berriel; the Deputy Minister of the Presidency, Javier González Ortiz; the conservation director of the Teide National Park, Manuel Durbán, representing the directors of the four parks; and the head of the National Parks Coordination service, María José Jiménez, representing the Deputy Minister of Territorial Planning, Miguel Ángel Pulido.

As representatives of the field of design, communication and advertising, the coordinator of the Canary Islands Landscape Observatory, Gilberto González, participated; the head of the institutional image of the Museums Area of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Domingo González; and José Jiménez, director of Valladares Diseño y Comunicación, responsible for the design of the logo of the Government of the Canary Islands.

More than 450 proposals

The jury highlighted the high number of proposals that were submitted to the contest - a total of 462 - as well as the freshness of the award-winning image and its ability to identify the network of National Parks of the Canary Islands and differentiate them from the rest of the spaces in the country, reflecting the diversity of landscapes and ecosystems that make up each of these four natural areas: Timanfaya (Lanzarote), Caldera de Taburiente (La Palma), Garajonay (La Gomera) and Teide (Tenerife).

"The high number of applications, coming from various countries, and the numerous expressions of curiosity expressed by numerous citizens, prove the special sensitivity that has been manifested at an international and national level for the National Parks of the Canary Islands, enclaves of the islands that are highly valued not only in Spain but also abroad for their biodiversity, landscape richness and, in short, for their undeniable beauty admired worldwide," say the Government of the Canary Islands.
