The Tías City Council, governed by PSOE and Unidas Sí Podemos, shows its rejection of the project to install 1,680 units of photovoltaic modules on rustic land in the municipality, whose public information announcement from the General Directorate of Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands has been published this Monday in the Official State Gazette (BOE) and to which allegations may be submitted in the next 30 days.
The Madrid-based company RS Iberia 23, SL has been in charge of promoting the installation of this solar plant in the municipality, whose budget amounts to 1.2 million euros.
The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, expresses the discomfort of the government group for the processing of a project that "does not have the support of the residents or the administration", and that entails the occupation of at least 24,117 square meters, which represent 28,721 square meters of cadastral area.
José Juan Cruz points out that the land where the photovoltaic solar installation is intended to be carried out is classified as rustic land for agricultural protection and the execution of the project would imply the "forced expropriation of 36 properties for the easement of electricity passage".
The first mayor recalls that on November 28, 2024, he already showed his rejection of this project and informed the residents of Mácher of this private proposal, which "will not have a positive or beneficial impact on the citizens and, therefore, the public utility of the project would not be justified".
Cruz Saavedra insists that "we are committed to promoting energy saving and the use of renewable energies, but not in this way, but through self-consumption and the occupation of existing roofs, thus avoiding the occupation of land in the municipality and the visual and environmental impact of the project we are dealing with".
