The Tías City Council has installed 97 brown containers for organic waste in hotel and non-hotel establishments in Puerto del Carmen, as well as other entities with dining rooms where a large amount of domestic biowaste is generated.

Information has previously been provided to the sector on its operation and on the Tías take care of me, with the organic campaign. This informative campaign is being promoted by the Tías City Council and the Foundation for Sustainable Development Canarias Recicla, a campaign that extends to other recipients, as more containers are expected to be installed in the rest of the municipality.

The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, and the councilor for the Environment, Carmen Gloria Rodríguez, confirm that the fifth container "is already a reality in the municipality of Tías" and emphasize the importance of correctly separating the waste generated in companies and homes, in addition to insisting on the objective of reducing waste generation.

Carmen Gloria Rodríguez congratulates the workers and businessmen of the hotel sector for the good reception of this measure. In fact, according to data provided by the waste management company in the municipality (FCC), in just one week, from April 15 to April 21, 14,720 kilograms of exclusively organic matter were collected, a significant amount at the beginning of the project.

Only domestic biowaste should be deposited in the brown container: fruit and vegetable remains, meat and fish remains, eggshells, shellfish and nuts, other food remains, coffee grounds and infusions, cork stoppers (without plastic or other materials), matches and sawdust, dirty kitchen paper, used paper napkins and small remains of pruning and gardening.

The waste must be deposited in the brown container in a compostable bag to guarantee hygiene and it is important not to deposit improper waste (plastics, bottles, light packaging, cardboard) so as not to hinder its subsequent treatment and recycling.
