The Lanzarote Water Consortium has awarded UTE Tiagua-Horinsa the works for the wastewater treatment plant and sanitation of El Golfo, in the municipality of Yaiza, for an amount of 1.4 million euros and with an execution period of 10 months.
“We made a commitment to the residents of El Golfo and today we see the fruits of that commitment. We have unlocked a project that represents a leap in quality for residents and businesses in the area. The Consortium has made an enormous effort to meet the deadlines, contrary to what happened in the last Legislature, which jeopardized the subsidy of one million euros granted by the Ministry of Ecological Transition,” according to the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Water Consortium, Oswaldo Betancort.
The works consist of the installation of a WWTP, Wastewater Treatment Plant, the construction of the sanitation network and a system for storing and reusing treated water, which reduces the environmental impact of human activity in the area and promotes the sustainability of water resources.
The Minister of Water of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Domingo Cejas, wanted to recognize “the great professionalism of the human team of the Consortium that has worked tirelessly so that today we can announce this great news. We launched the tender on May 2; the deadline was open until the 23rd, on the 28th we opened the envelopes with the offers and today the contracting table has awarded the works and in the coming days, and imminently, we will sign the contract with the awarded company.”
The sanitation and wastewater treatment work in El Golfo is included in an Agreement signed in 2017 between the Lanzarote Water Consortium and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment (currently the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge) that contributes one million euros, while the rest of the item comes from the Water Consortium's own funds.
The Water Consortium has activated the mechanisms of the Law of Administrative Procedure to tender and award the work, preventing the state subsidy from being lost, given that the agreement with the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge expires in November of this year.
The delays in the processing of this work are derived from the “inaction of the previous Government group. Since 2021, the Environmental Assessment was already available, but it was not taken to the Government Commission of the Cabildo, something that we did in February of last year, thus initiating the processing of the project,” adds Domingo Cejas.
