Unions call an indefinite strike of Valterra's emergency personnel

They assure that despite successive meetings with the managers of the Canary Health Service and despite numerous writings requesting that the problems that exist in the Valterra Emergency Service be solved, they have not managed to be heard and that is why they will start the strike on October 3 between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. on weekdays and from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. the next day on Sundays and holidays.

They denounce that their shifts and schedules are outside current regulations, that they have seen the emergency care time increased, to which is added the obligation to care for dependent patients from the municipality of Teguise, after at the beginning of August, the Primary Care Directorate eliminated localized emergency care in that area, referring "approximately 21,000 people", according to the unions, to the Valterra Emergency Service, without the SCS having evaluated the impact of this decision on workers and users.

They complain about the non-compliance with the agreements adopted between the Administration and the unions last February and that came into force in May, by which the SCS committed to reinforcing emergency services due to the increase in demand once the usual hours of primary care centers had been reduced.

They also denounce the deficient existing infrastructures in the Valterra Emergency Service, which causes "the physical assistance space to be saturated" and "increases the tension between users and workers", which implies a deterioration in the quality of care of the service. Workers and unions announce that with the arrival of medical pathologies typical of the change of season "the Emergency Service will collapse even more" because the SCS managers "leave, as always, everything to improvisation".

What do they request?

They have set as objectives that the stipulated legal hours be restored, that the Emergency staff be increased, the economic regularization of the staff and they also request provision of means of transport to guarantee home care.

The minimum services that workers must offer to users of the Valterra Emergency Service during the strike have not yet been negotiated.
