The Residence and Psychosocial Rehabilitation Center for people with Disabilities due to Mental Illness enters its final phase, after the provision of equipment, material and supplies necessary for this center to start operating as soon as possible.
The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through public competition and open procedure, has awarded said allocation for a total amount as a whole of more than 300,000 euros, which will be used to equip the gym, bathrooms, furniture, hospitality, clinical and cleaning material, dining service, outdoor equipment, internal signage, linen-laundry carts and machinery. Similarly, other supplies are added to this allocation, such as audiovisual, telephone and computer equipment.
However, and to meet the planned deadlines, the Department of Social Welfare has organized an update course, called "Orientation in the care of people with severe and chronic mental illness", aimed at about 40 students and who, in principle, would be part of the staff that would provide services at the Mental Health Center. The future workers will come from the internal reorganization of the staff of the Social Welfare area of the Cabildo and the Social Care Institute of Lanzarote.
This new socio-health infrastructure has been built in less than a year and has had an execution budget of 2,350,000 euros. The work is co-financed by the Government of the Canary Islands, with an item of 450,000 euros, 700,000 euros from the Cabildo of Lanzarote and 1,200,000 euros from the State Special Fund (Plan E) destined for the development and modernization of the Services network of the System for Autonomy and Attention to Dependency.
The center, which has a capacity for about 50 places, 35 in residential care and 15 in day service, occupies a plot in Tahíche, ceded by the Cabildo of Lanzarote, of 6,000 square meters.
