José Ramón Galindo, senator for Lanzarote, sent a letter this Wednesday to the president of Iveco Spain, Jaime Revilla Arroyo, to "intercede" against the eviction of the elderly Sinforiano Lemes and Pilar Callero, 91 and 88 years old, scheduled for March 10. The eviction has been requested by the IVECO concessionaire company in Lanzarote, Juan Antonio Rivera S.L., which in 2006 bought the house where this couple lives from the Church. The elderly have been fighting since then to avoid their eviction, but after the last request from the company, the Court has once again set a date for their eviction.
The senator addressed Revilla, as he mentions in his writing, "as the highest representative of Iveco in Spain, with the hope that he can intercede with the concessionaire company in Lanzarote and avoid an outcome that, for sure, in addition to the family pain and social commotion it would cause, would cause undeniable damage to the image of the Iveco commercial brand."
In the text sent to the manager, Galindo also pointed out that the "precarious health situation" of the couple means that proposing a move means "running an enormous risk for the already weak lives of the elderly." Likewise, the senator adds in his writing, "we are facing a case in which humanity must be above the economic benefit that the eviction and demolition of the house could produce, and I trust in your willingness to resolve this situation in the best possible way."
With this initiative, the senator for Lanzarote hopes that "the company will reverse its intentions to expel the elderly from Argana from what has been their home for more than 50 years," explains Podemos. José Ramón Galindo who will participate in the protest rally for the eviction of the elderly called for next Friday on Calle Real in Arrecife.
