The Interior Committee of the Senate approved this Monday, with the favorable votes of CC and PNV, the motion presented by the senator of the Popular Party, Loly Luzardo, in which the central government is urged to create a permanent post of the Civil Guard on the island of La Graciosa.

Luzardo has expressed her satisfaction in that with its approval the Upper House gives the green light to a demand of the people of Graciosa, who for several years have been demanding improvements in security matters on the island. The senator regrets, however, that the PSOE does not share this need and has voted against the installation of a stable detachment in Caleta de Sebo.

In defending the motion, Luzardo referred to the 600 registered inhabitants on the island, but above all insisted on the tourist weight that it has gained in recent years, registering 200,000 annual travelers. The senator of the Popular Party also conveyed to the Chamber "the very difficult circumstances" that are experienced on the island on many occasions, due to bad weather, which prevents access both by sea and through the heliport.

For Luzardo, the future installation of the post will provide La Graciosa with more security, since members of the Local Police and the Civil Guard itself will coexist on the island.
